The Behavioral Health Facilitator (BHF) serves as a clinical and milieu leader on the inpatient unit, ensuring delivery of a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment for patients with complex behavioral and psychiatric needs. The BHF provides advanced support in milieu management, group programming, crisis response, staff coaching, and family engagement, while collaborating closely with the interdisciplinary treatment team to promote positive patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Milieu Management & Care Delivery Lead and oversee the therapeutic milieu and group programming during waking hours, ensuring consistent implementation of individualized treatment plans. Develop, facilitate, and coach staff in evidence‑based group programming and milieu interventions. Adapt the milieu to proactively manage disruptive or high‑risk behaviors; provide real‑time coaching during crises. Conduct patient rounds to monitor location, risk level, and mental status;

communicate changes promptly to nursing. Lead shift assignments and delegate daily unit tasks, including environmental rounds, observation checks, and documentation oversight. Ensure unit safety, readiness, and availability of materials and resources for programming and care delivery.

Group Programming & Clinical Leadership Design and lead therapeutic groups tailored to patient developmental level, diagnosis, and behavioral presentation. Educate and mentor staff in group leadership, therapeutic use of 1:1 interactions, and behavior plan implementation. Recognize and redirect non‑productive group processes to maintain therapeutic engagement. Provide constructive feedback to peers and support completion of individualized care management plans (ICMPs). Participate in quality improvement initiatives focused on improving patient care and unit functioning.

Crisis Management Respond to behavioral emergencies in collaboration with the Code Violet Response Team. Support and coach staff during seclusion and restraint events when clinically necessary. Ensure consistent implementation and documentation of individualized behavior plans and crisis interventions.

Patient & Family Engagement Encourage and support patient participation in family meetings and treatment planning. Engage families during visits; provide education on behavioral interventions, safety planning, and expectations for treatment. Coach staff on effective family engagement, positive reinforcement strategies, and de‑escalation techniques. Integrate age‑appropriate, developmentally informed, and culturally inclusive practices into all patient interactions.

Qualifications Required

Bachelor's degree in related field 2+ years of work experience in a related job discipline

  • Advanced experience in inpatient or acute behavioral health settings
  • Demonstrated leadership in milieu management, crisis intervention, and staff coaching
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills within interdisciplinary teams
  • Commitment to trauma‑informed, evidence‑based, and family‑centered care
