This position is responsible for performing the manual technical tasks involved with the proper storage, distribution, packaging and labeling of drugs, associated record keeping, and patient charging systems. A Pharmacy Technician also assists with inventory control, drug pricing, ordering of supplies, and performs related clerical duties. Performs special projects of an administrative nature requiring advanced technical knowledge of department’s operations.

A.Licensure/Certification/Registration:
National Pharmacy Technician certificate is required.

Education:

H.S. diploma or GED

C.

Experience:

Four or more years experience as a pharmacy technician in a hospital pharmacy required/or LPN license.

D.Special qualifications:
Good communication skills, both orally and written. Computer skills helpful. Ability to work with others as a team to ensure quality patient care.

Involves general guidance and direction by Department Manager.

This position requires competence in assessment, treatment, and/or care for the age groups indicated. The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area. The skills and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education, training, or experience.

Requires corrected hearing and vision to within functional ranges. Requires frequent bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients, and sufficient manual dexterity to operate therapeutic equipment. Must be able to stand for long periods at a time. Good mental and physical health to work for long periods of time in a highly stressful atmosphere is required. Frequently required to lift or carry 10-20 lbs and occasionally required to lift or carry up to 50 lbs.

This position requires the use of personal protective equipment during various tasks/activities. Personal protective equipment includes, but is not limited to, gloves, masks and safety glasses.
