I. General Responsibility & Oversight
The Executive Director is responsible for the overall management of the PCWA under the direction of the Board of Directors, as prioritized by the Chair. Perform additional tasks and functions as designated by the Executive Board. The Director reports to the PCWA Executive Board.
II. Key Areas of Responsibility Administration and Project B Management- Oversee and coordinate all PCWA projects, providing ongoing information to stakeholders, agencies (county, state, federal), academic partners, and the Executive Board.
- Maintain office space, equipment, and pertinent records. In conjunction with the Secretary, the ED is responsible for maintaining the official records of the PCWA, including minutes of meetings.
- Develop goals and strategies consistent with the PCWA mission and the Executive Board’s vision.
- Serve as the PCWA spokesperson to agencies, politicians, the media, and the public.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with the Executive Board and project partners, including local, state, and federal agencies, academic institutions, business firms, landowners, and conservation organizations.
- Maintain a working knowledge of watershed issues pertaining to the Piney Creek Watershed.
- Assume full responsibility for financial tasks, funds and grant management after the first 6 months, following comprehensive training from the current treasurer.
- Be responsible for the disbursement of all funds when authorized by the Board.
- Arrange for and support financial reviews and/or audits.
- Coordinate with CPA to ensure reports to maintain 501(c)(3) status requirements.
- Partner with the Associate Director to oversee project management and maintain continuous momentum on all active initiatives.
- Oversee communication with members and constituents via newsletters, website updates, and other online resources.
- Increase emphasis on fundraising through strategic membership engagement while maintaining current membership records.
- Lead efforts in developing and managing fundraising initiatives, with time allocation toward seeking and securing new grants and major gifts.
- Head up and organize the annual Raleigh County Water Festival in collaboration with partners.
- Promote water quality education to school groups and other public organizations through presentations and public relations programs.
- Prepare the agenda (for Board approval) and advertise General Membership meetings not less than five days in advance.
The Director should be a confident, creative self-starter and team player with excellent organizational, speaking, interpersonal, and writing skills. They should be comfortable with public speaking, coordinating teams, chairing committees, and working independently. The ideal candidate is versed in planning events, media relations, and has a basic knowledge of water quality issues.
