Position Overview
Participating in day-to-day lamination job duties and assisting the Group Lead and Supervisor in a wide range of departmental reporting.
Grade: 5
Responsibilities Safety- Maintain cleanliness, ensure safety compliance to include PPE adherence, safety policy adherence, and safe behaviors and conditions. If observe a team member exhibiting unsafe behavior (using a tool unsafely, or not wearing proper PPE, etc) first try to address it with the team member, and then elevate it to the next level.
- Ensure understanding of team members for how they impact compliance/DPUs (defects per unit).
- Responsible for station quality sign-off.
- Willing and able to be cross‑functionally trained throughout the workstation to cover and fill in for absenteeism. Broad range of skill and working knowledge of work tasks plus related tasks.
- Working to a standard of work; escalating to group leader for non‑routine tasks that are not covered in a standard of work.
- Shop floor rolling boats.
- Provide input to Group Leader regarding configuration of job breakdowns and layout for run‑rate changes and new product integration.
- Friday work required as scheduled; able to work a flexible schedule to meet the demands of the business.
- Act independently to determine procedures and provide directions to new members and/or less experienced members of the team.
- Training / Instructor – mentoring, instructing, conducting new hire OJT (on‑job training). (Or able to back up the Group Leader as an instructor, when needed.)
- Uphold and represent the Brunswick Integrity Playbook and Professional behavior and communications of a leader.
- Hands on boat builder (~50‑75%) who is a "go‑to" for a particular workstation.
- Span of control is approximately 4‑6 team members.
- Drive accountability:
Escalate to Group Leader any repeat issues with quality, safety, control of breaks/lunch times. Explain specifications in cases where defect is encountered. Ask if the individuals who performed the defect need additional training, plan to provide training either directly or with assistance from group leader. - Desire to grow in leadership role. Partner with peers to resolve production and quality issues.
- MES tools. Basic computer skills will be a requirement. Log in / log out (i.e., use Shop Floor, Workday, SharePoint, and access and use schedules and prints).
- Open to outside hires, but would need to have 1‑3+ years of relevant industry experience.
- 3 years of boat building experience preferred.
- Ability to adjust labor accordingly.
- Ability to audit departmental work areas.
- Ability to identify short stocks and report them.
- Ability to read and understand production schedule.
- Working knowledge of procedures, instructions, and documents as it relates to the quality system.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Must be able to train current and new employees on the tasks required to get the job completed.
- Proven leadership qualities, including positive attitude, good attendance, and promotion of good morale.
- Must be able to adapt to changing requirements in a positive and proactive way.
- Ability to interact professionally and effectively with all levels within the organization.
- Must be flexible to work extended hours to support the requirements of the business.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints.
- Skills in forklift, overhead hoist, computer, fiberglass and/or gel‑coat applications preferred.
- 3+ years of manufacturing experience. Marine industry experience highly preferred.
- High school degree or GED.
- May be required to work in a non‑air‑conditioned area.
- Regularly required to work at heights on platforms, lifting parts and pieces up to 50 lbs.
- Exposed to noise, dust, fumes, and odors daily.
- Must always possess the desire and ambition to work safely and report all hazards to the supervisor immediately.
- Must understand basic terminology such as OSHA, DEP, and other regulatory agencies.
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment when designated, including but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, etc.
