Position: Parts Inspector/Finish Repair Tech (Nights)
Location: Vonore

Position Overview:

Responsible for constructing and repairing fiberglass boat hulls, decks, and small parts. This role involves using a variety of tools and materials to ensure high‑quality finishes and structural integrity.

Essential Functions
  • Tech I
    • Building and repairing fiberglass boat hulls, decks, and small parts using hand tools and specialty tools such as gel‑coat spray equipment, grinders, buffers, and drills.
    • Inspecting parts and understanding fiberglass finishes or basic use of abrasives.
    • Handling and applying solvents, paints, pastes, putty, and wax, including proper disposal.
    • Following specific job instructions and providing verbal and/or written status of part completion.
    • Recognizing and protecting boat components while performing finishing duties.
  • Tech II
    • Advanced knowledge and proficiency in all Tech I job duties.
    • Successful completion of an internal skills test that includes:
      • Demonstrating proper gel to catalyst chemical mixture calculations and mixing at standard temperatures.
      • Demonstrating acceptable repair methodologies for defects on a small part geometry, including dual‑action sand marks, blemishes, pits, pinholes, craters, cracks, mold marks, air voids, take‑off, and buff, meeting gel‑coat surface acceptance criteria.
Required Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • 2–3 years of boat building experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of hand tools.
  • Ability to read and understand print shop parts and production schedules.
  • Physical ability to work with suspended loads and heavy lifting, up to 50 lbs.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to adapt to changing requirements in a positive and proactive manner.
  • Excellent attention to detail for identifying defects and inconsistencies in parts and components.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in quality control or inspection, preferably in a manufacturing or marine environment.
  • Advanced proficiency with precision measuring tools and equipment such as calipers, micrometers, and coordinate measuring machines.
  • Proven ability to identify and resolve quality issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Strong ability to meticulously document inspection findings and maintain accurate records.
Working Conditions
  • Maintain cleanliness and ensure safety compliance, including PPE adherence, safety policies, and safe behaviors.
  • Desire to always work safely and report all hazards to supervisor immediately.
  • Basic knowledge of OSHA, DEP, and other regulatory terminology.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, etc.

Pay range: $21.42 – $24.05 per hour for Tech I and $23.69 – $26.52 per hour for Tech II. Actual base pay depends on job‑related knowledge, experience, business needs, and location.
