Leidos’ Defense Systems Electronics Manufacturing Facility is seeking a 2nd Shift SMTA Process Engineer Specialist to join our team to create unique solutions for complex problems. This position will be part of an engineering team located in Huntsville, AL.

Responsibilities
  • Candidates will develop, document, and execute manufacturing processes and procedures for electronic products.
  • Candidate will support production of printed circuit board assemblies through various processes, including SMT, Through Hole Selective Solder, Press fit, Conformal Coating, and other PCBA manufacturing processes.
  • Applicant will work with a multi‑disciplinary team to develop a wide variety of hardware and work with the latest automated technology used in assembly and test equipment.
  • Candidate will support tasks such as creating machine programs and overseeing the execution of manufacturing activities.
  • Candidate will work closely with the operations team to complete all details of the assembly and ultimately prepare the assembly for delivery to the customer.
  • Candidate will also work closely with our manufacturing team—engineering, operations, and quality teams—to develop processes that validate customer quality requirements.
  • Candidate will work closely with production control to meet the desired delivery schedule.
Basic Qualifications
  • Candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree and 2‑4 years of prior relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with less than 2 years of prior relevant work experience. In lieu of a degree, a high‑school diploma with 6 years of experience will be considered.
  • Candidate must be willing to work 2nd‑shift hours from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. and be available to train on 1st shift for at least one month before moving to 2nd shift.
  • Experience working with SMT, PTH, selective soldering, or conformal coating processes will be considered.
  • Experience with Costpoint Material Planning software and/or Agile/Windchill product lifecycle management software, various quality roles, or Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) is a plus.
  • Candidate must demonstrate strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently. Ability to multi‑task well is essential.
  • Candidate must have experience working with design engineers, manufacturing engineers, and technicians to develop a build strategy and identify potential problems during assembly.
  • Candidate will be required to have basic computer skills for assembly tasks, such as retrieving and updating manufacturing documentation in the system.
  • Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area or be willing to relocate to Huntsville‑North Alabama, AL.
  • Candidate must be a U.S. citizen and possess (or be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Preferred candidate will have at least 5 years of manufacturing experience on programs building electronic hardware to government specifications.
  • Preferred candidate will have experience in ASM pick‑and‑place, DEK screen printers, BTU ovens, PVA coating machines, and pillarhouse or JUKI selective solder equipment.
  • Experience with software that maintains bills of materials and other engineering design data.
  • Experience with electronics used on launch vehicles, targets, or missile components, and with production of cable harnesses, electronics, and electromechanical assemblies.
  • Experience in various quality roles and using Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) is a plus.
