CNC Machinist - 1st Shift (4x10 Schedule, No Weekends)
Mueller Water Products is the leading manufacturer of flow control devices for water and gas distribution industries and has an immediate opening for a Machinist at its newest Kimball, TN facility.
Job DescriptionAs a Machinist
, you will set up, program, and operate CNC and other machines (including DMG Mori, Toshiba, Doosan, Mazak, Puma, Fortune, and Nakamura‑Tome). You will maintain quality and safety standards and perform routine maintenance on equipment and supplies as needed.
- Read blueprints, engineering plans, material documents, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters, interpreting GD&T.
- Program mills and lathes using conversational software & G & M code, including zero and reference points, setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements with basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; and validating part programs.
- Set up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers.
- Configure and adjust bar feeder systems.
- Verify machine settings by measuring positions, first‑run parts, and sample work pieces.
- Maintain specifications through drilling, grooving, cutting, turning, facing, thread chasing, measuring, detecting malfunctions, troubleshooting, reprogramming controls, replacing worn tools, and following quality assurance procedures.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance, troubleshoot malfunctions, and order repairs as needed.
- Document work shift continuity, irregularities, and operational needs; communicate issues to team lead or supervisor.
- Maintain production and quality logs.
- Keep work area clean and organized.
- Adhere to safety guidelines and flag equipment or safety issues via the “Stop, Call, Wait” procedure.
- Perform other routine duties as directed.
- Read and interpret blueprints and product drawings.
- Set up, program, and operate CNC or manual machines.
- Commit to strong safety standards in industrial and manufacturing environments.
- Have advanced math skills for measurement concepts.
- Familiarity with thread gauges, ring gauges, /OD micrometers, and other measuring devices.
- Read and use micrometer calipers and other measuring devices.
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum 3 years programming, setting up, operating, and troubleshooting CNC machines in industrial or manufacturing settings.
- Advanced CNC programming certification.
- Wear PPE (safety glasses, steel‑toed shoes, etc.) in an industrial setting.
- Manipulate objects with hands and fingers.
- Frequently sit, stand, walk, and reach within arm’s length.
- Stoop, kneel, and crouch as needed.
- Reach overhead or at shoulder level occasionally.
- Ascend or descend ladders or steps in confined spaces.
- Lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects 25‑50 lbs in all directions.
- Remain stationary or standing for extended periods, alternating positions.
- Repeat gross or fine manipulation with wrists and fingers.
- Perform close visual inspections of products.
- Work in an open warehouse environment subject to seasonal weather.
