A Brief Summary of This Position
The Warehouse Operator is an individual contributor position who supports the Small Parts department reporting to the Shift Supervisor. This role is responsible for the accurate handling, movement, and documentation of materials and products within a manufacturing environment to ensure efficient production flow and inventory accuracy by using computers; stationary and hand held to be used throughout the shift daily. Responds to direct two-way radio requests from departments, using good judgment in prioritizing calls.
Must use good judgment in inspection of loads for damage and proper handling. May be required to assist with functions in other department areas and may work irregular hours. Maintains good housekeeping and exercises precautions for safety operation of all equipment.

- Move and document materials/products to maintain inventory accuracy
- Store and label physical steel inventory to maintain accuracy
- Interpret production and shipping orders to ensure proper material handling
- Perform inventory cycle counts and reconcile discrepancies
- Maintain and care for tools and equipment
- Follow all safety procedures and actively participate in safety practices
- Make decisions regarding moving, receiving and storing material
- Prioritize workloads and resolve discrepancies
- Work from the direction of the supervisor, moving materials from inbound freight to work stations or storage areas
- Enter data and complete required reports in a timely fashion
- Operate IFS and Zebra handheld materials and desktop computers
- Receive inbound inventory for current and upcoming orders
- Assist when available for material staging
- Write legibly on materials and BOLs (Bill of Ladings)
- Conduct daily crane inspections
- Perform audits by comparing records with actual physical materials
- Perform random quality checks of parts entering the facility
- Maintain all inventory for location accuracies; including responsibility for cycle counts
- Operate forklift and conduct daily forklift inspections
- Maintain large forklifts, including battery hook up and general maintenance
- Work 100% in an outdoor environment
- Perform other duties as directed by leaders and management
- Actively participate in department safety and demonstrate excellent safety practices conforming to all Valmont safety policies
- Proficient with computers
- Communicate problems or needs to departmental/shift supervision
- Add, subtract, multiply, divide, read, write, and count accurately and legibly
- Communicate and interact with coworkers professionally
- Pay attention to details and follow work instructions
- High awareness for safety with the ability to wear all required PPE and work in a non-temperature controlled environment, as well as with exposure to outdoors
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to spend 90% of workday standing or walking, and 10% stooping
- One (1) year of previous experience operating a forklift in a manufacturing/outside environment
- Experience in moving materials around a warehouse and/or storage yard
- Prior experience with computers in inventory management systems
- Proficiency in Outlook, IFS, Zebra, Mii
- Must be able to clearly understand, follow, and communicate written and verbal instructions
- Must be proficient in the reading of specifications and bills of material
- Must perform the computer functions/transactions required by the department timely and effectively
Must be able to perform satisfactorily all functions of this position within 6 months of starting. Must obtain valid Valmont forklift Operator License for all forklifts used in the position.
Decision MakingThe decisions made in this position affect inventory accuracy and availability of material for production. The incumbent prioritizes workload to avoid lost time to all departments, utilizes product mix in location ensuring proper rotation of stored materials, reviews space allocations and material flow to maximize utilization of space available, and applies creativity to solve problems encountered within the scope of their activity.
