Mueller Water Products, Inc. is the nation’s leading manufacturer of flow control devices for the water and gas distribution industries. We have an immediate opening for a Production Lead in our newest Kimball, TN facility.

Job Description

As a Production Lead, you will lead, direct, train, and keep the day‑to‑day operations on track for the production department at the direction of the area Supervisor. You will help lead department team members in daily work, overseeing production systems to maintain appropriate quality and safety standards while managing equipment and supplies.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Act as a first point of contact for all area employees regarding issues and questions related to your department.
  • Assist in the assignment of work at the direction of the area supervisor, ensuring efficient flow.
  • Train or assist in training new employees.
  • Maintain a high degree of morale among employees, identifying and flagging potential employee‑relations issues.
  • Recommend changes in methods, procedures, and equipment to maintain maximum efficiency.
  • Coordinate with engineering on process and product improvement and production strategies.
  • Provide regular reporting and updates to supervisors and managers as requested.
  • Assist in RCCM (Root Cause, Counter Measure) process to resolve production issues.
  • Guide and direct the team to meet production line goals, including tracking of the production schedule for the area.
  • Communicate with other area leads and supervisors as needed.
  • Verify settings by measuring positions, first‑run parts, and sample work pieces.
  • Perform quality‑control checks and verify work‑order specifications.
  • Raise safety concerns pre‑emptively and ensure area PPE and safeguards are used appropriately.
  • Maintain equipment by completing preventive‑maintenance requirements following manufacturer instructions.
  • Route employee‑relations issues appropriately and timely.
  • Report any policy violations, unsafe activity, or activity outside the Mueller code of conduct.
  • Provide real‑time feedback to employees regarding production work.
  • Maintain continuity among work shifts in the pass‑off procedure by documenting actions, irregularities, and ongoing operational needs, and communicating issues to the appropriate team lead or supervisor.
  • Maintain appropriate operational documentation, including production and quality logs.
  • Ensure work areas and the department are clean and organized.
  • Maintain safe operations by adhering to all relevant safety guidelines, procedures, and regulations, flagging any equipment or safety issues to the appropriate team lead, supervisor, maintenance, or EHS personnel using the "Stop, Call, Wait" procedure.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
Required Skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, at various organizational levels.
  • Strong personal commitment to safety standards in industrial and/or manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to read blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, and machining parameters, interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and e‑mail.
  • Previous use and understanding of an MRP system.
  • Advanced math skills with the ability to understand measuring/measurement concepts and their applications.
  • Strong ability to train others on multiple processes and procedures in production environments.
  • Familiarity with basic and advanced measuring tools for inspection of parts.
  • Must be organized and detail oriented.
  • Follow and explain detailed verbal and written area instructions, processes, and procedures.
Required Education / Experience
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
  • 3–5 years of leading others in a manufacturing setting, or 10 years working in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
