The Program Coordinator supports NAMI Tennessee’s mission to improve the lives of individuals and families affected by mental illness by coordinating, implementing, and evaluating statewide education and support programs. This role serves as a key link between NAMI Tennessee, local affiliates, community partners, and volunteers.

The Program Coordinator is responsible for managing program logistics, maintaining accurate records, supporting volunteer presenters and facilitators, and ensuring program quality and consistency across the state. The position also assists in training coordination, outreach efforts, data tracking, and communication to expand program reach and impact.

This role requires strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for mental health advocacy and community engagement. The Program Coordinator works collaboratively with NAMI Tennessee staff to support events, special initiatives, and strategic priorities that further the organization’s goals.

Job Responsibilities

All programs have specific annual goals for training new volunteers. Goals are accomplished by arranging 3 training courses per year, per program. This includes:

  • Work with NAMI Tennessee staff and local affiliate/support group leadership to identify, recruit and screen new volunteers (program leaders).
  • Assist training participants through the training portal for pre‑requisite webinar training and Zoom training with State Trainers.
  • Training will be performed in accordance with procedures established by the Director, Program & Innovation, and NAMI Tennessee.
  • Participate in regional, state and national meetings (phone and web‑based) pertaining to these programs and other NAMI Tennessee programs.
  • Market programs and other appropriate NAMI Tennessee programs to the broader community.
Qualifications
  • Preference given to individuals who have been a recipient of mental health services for severe and persistent mental illness with insight and awareness into their mental health condition, committed to self‑care and their recovery process. Along with a minimum of one year in recovery absence of any psychiatric crisis or hospitalization.
  • High school diploma, high school equivalency or at least two years of paid or volunteer work experience serving as mental health advocate.
  • Experience in office setting in a collaborative team model.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities with a talent to give constructive feedback to volunteers.
  • Possess good oral and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Preference given to individuals familiar with the TN public mental health service system and/or Tennessee public education system.
  • Occasional in‑state travel.
