Location:
Louisville, KY. This in‑office position requires daily reporting to the regional HQ office in Louisville and frequent regional travel to meet donors, staff, and other constituents. Incumbents must be able to travel within the region as needed.
The Regional Chief Development Officer (RCDO) will strengthen and grow the donor base and development program to meet assigned financial goals. You will support the Regional Executive to drive a revenue‑oriented culture based on market‑driven targets. This is a highly visible, externally facing role that represents the region in cultivating and soliciting donors with the greatest capacity. This position is not eligible for relocation assistance.
Responsibilities- Develop and execute annual and multi‑year fundraising strategies for the region, growing annual revenue in the short term while diversifying the donor sponsorship base toward long‑term sustainability.
- Lead focused growth by working directly with top donor prospects in coordination with the region’s development staff.
- Develop a written plan and implement a program to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors at the $5,000 level or higher, maximizing revenue for the American Red Cross.
- Act as a senior leader in the region and direct the development team with respect to strategic decisions.
- Accountable for achieving or exceeding the region’s minimum fundraising target and managing the fundraising expense target, with additional revenue targets possible during major domestic disasters.
- Cultivate relationships and serve as the primary liaison for representatives of large corporations and foundations for solicitation and stewardship purposes; collaborate with national headquarters development staff to identify and maximize fundraising opportunities; serve as the primary liaison for the Board’s Philanthropy Committee and orient new board members to their fundraising responsibilities.
- Work with leadership to determine the reporting structure for the fundraising staff in the region and ensure best practices for measuring staff performance.
- Bachelor’s degree required with a minimum of 7 years of fundraising leadership experience or equivalent education and experience. Advanced degree is highly desirable.
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
- Five years of management experience (management experience cannot be substituted).
- Ability to relate well and work effectively with multiple constituencies and audiences; excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of office systems:
Microsoft Office preferred; experience with fundraising database systems (e.g., Raiser’s Edge, ). Teamwork and customer‑service orientation. - Frequent travel within the region; occasional travel to the Division and to Washington, DC.
- Deep familiarity with the local community and existing relationships with regional stakeholders, donors, or partners.
- Knowledge of current trends in philanthropy.

Physical requirements are those present in a normal office environment. Operational flexibility is required to meet sudden and unpredictable needs. Ability to use a personal computer, applicable software, and office equipment for sustained periods. May include sitting for long periods, driving a vehicle, and working under challenging conditions.
