Terms of Service:

  • Start Date: September 8, 2026
  • End Date: September 7, 2027
  • Service Term: 365 days (1 year)
  • Living Allowance: $68.39 per day ($24,962.35 per year)

The Hatfield and McCoy Foundation, an Ameri Corps Program, is dedicated to preserving and sharing Appalachian heritage through cultural education, tourism, storytelling, and community engagement in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, and the surrounding region. The program serves local residents and visitors by fostering appreciation for regional history and traditions while strengthening community connections and identity. Guided by values of cultural stewardship, collaboration, authenticity, and sustainability, the program works to build strong partnerships, expand educational opportunities, and support long‑term community vitality.

Description

of Duties

The Ameri Corps VISTA member will strengthen the Hatfield & McCoy Experience by developing organizational systems that support program operations, volunteer engagement, educational outreach, community partnerships, and long‑term sustainability.

Responsibilities include:

  • Creating processes for volunteer recruitment and coordination
  • Developing tools to organize educational programs and community initiatives
  • Improving internal workflows
  • Creating resources that support consistent outreach and partnership management
Qualifications
  • United States citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident alien
  • Minimum age 18 years
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Able to provide information for eligibility verification and complete a National Service Criminal History Check
Physical Requirements

Positions may require periodic overnight travel, non‑traditional hours, ability to move across varied terrain, use program‑specific tools and a range of technology infrequently or frequently, and exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Driving an organizational vehicle may also be required. Reasonable accommodations will be provided as needed.

Time Requirements
  • Typically full‑time (35–40 hours per week), though schedules may vary
  • May be required to participate in national, state, or local service projects or events during the term
Orientation and Training
  • Orientation including training on Ameri Corps prohibited and unallowable activities
  • Virtual Member Orientation (VMO) from VISTA on the first day of service
  • Segal Ameri Corps Education Award: $7,395.00
  • Living Allowance: $68.39 per day, disbursed every 2 weeks
  • Relocation Allowance: $750 if eligible
  • Loan forbearance if eligible
  • Interest payments if eligible

Performance & Reporting

Performance will be evaluated based on completion of the required year of service, satisfactory completion of assignments, and meeting other performance criteria communicated at the beginning of the term. Reporting requirements include bi‑weekly timesheets, accomplishment tracking, and quarterly reporting.
