Responsible for providing direct nursing care to Residents. Participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team providing support and information about nursing services.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities- Assure Resident safety at all times.
- Address each Resident with their preferred name and abide by Residents’ Rights, rules, and regulations.
- Maintain a collaborative work environment, avoiding petty conflicts and not participating in gossip or rumors.
- Prepare and administer medications per physician orders, review medication records for completeness, accuracy, and adherence.
- Complete required documentation accurately and timely for each problem or need identified.
- Supervise care delivered by Certified Nursing Assistants.
- Adhere to Resident abuse policy and procedure.
- Maintain confidentiality of all activities, persons, and records.
- Access continuing education opportunities appropriate to discipline and responsibilities to maintain current clinical status (in applicable states).
- Attend and participate in departmental/facility meetings as required.
- Show patience and encouragement when dealing with Residents who have difficulty consuming medications.
- Identify Resident by name-band or photograph before administering meds.
- Follow Resident preferences when providing care and service (e.g., meal times, treatment times, bathing, sleep & wake times).
- Maintain Resident privacy, values, and right for decision making.
- Immediately notify supervisor and Executive Director of any injury, illness, or condition that might impact job performance.
- Perform duties in compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Assist in developing and implementing individualized plans of care for each Resident.
- Assist in orienting new employees per the orientation manual.
- Demonstrate compliance with Residents’ Rights at all times.
- Work beyond normal hours and in other positions when necessary.
- Establish and maintain positive rapport with all healthcare team members, Residents, and visitors.
- Assist Residents with bathing, dressing, personal hygiene, moving in bed, standing, and walking.
- Follow policy during fire/disaster drills.
- Set objectives and goals for self; achieve at least two objectives in twelve months.
- Promote personal growth in health care by reading literature, attending workshops, and in-service education programs.
- Operate automotive equipment legally and safely.
- Adhere to facility insurance guidelines for coverage under the policy.
- Accept additional assignments within the scope of training, education, or experience as assigned by Charge Nurse or Executive Director.
- Maintain confidentiality of all Resident care information, including protected health information, and report unauthorized disclosures.
- Ensure Residents receive fair treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, property, and civil rights, including the right to wage complaints.
- Review Resident complaints and grievances, report actions taken, and discuss with Residents and families as appropriate.
- Follow safety regulations, including fire protection, smoking rules, and infection control.
- Maintain building and grounds in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition by reporting concerns to management.
- Adhere to regulations on labels and SDSs for hazardous chemicals.
- Ensure facility manuals identify safety precautions and equipment for tasks that could cause injury or exposure to hazardous substances.
- Follow ergonomics policies to prevent self-injury.
- Receive appropriate training before handling tasks involving blood, body fluids, or hazardous chemicals.
- Unencumbered, active license as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the state of permanent residence (state within the Nurse Licensure Compact).
- Desire to work with elders and others with limited self-care capacity.
- Mental and physical ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Ability to care for individuals across personality types and maturity levels.
- Creative initiative and mature judgment in making competent decisions.
- Consistent courteous, empathetic, and professional attitude.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Oral and written communication ability to share information as needed for job duties.
- Accessible transportation for flexible scheduling.
