Job Type: Full-Time | Days Monday-Friday 7.5 hours daily; rotating call.

The Infection Control Practitioner has knowledge of CDC guidelines and the definitions of healthcare‑associated infections (HAIs). The responsibility includes identifying, investigating, reporting, preventing, and controlling HAIs among patients and personnel. By authority of the Infection Control Committee, the nurse may institute culture collection and initiate appropriate isolation precautions, and assist with in‑service programs related to infection prevention and control.
Essential Functions- Comprehensive knowledge of the complete infection control process in the healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of risk‑stratified statistics applicable to trending HAIs.
- Develops and implements a system for identifying, investigating, reporting, and preventing the spread of HAIs among patients of all ages and healthcare personnel.
- Reviews cultures and sensitivities reported by the microbiology laboratory to determine if an infection is healthcare‑associated.
- Confer with staff nurses on all patient care units regularly to determine occurrence of HAIs.
- Investigate infections, especially those occurring above established thresholds or in clusters by patient care units.
- Assists with in‑service education related to infection prevention and control throughout the hospital.
- Assists in developing, implementing, and improving infection control practices.
- Reviews and revises all department policies and procedures related to infection control concurrently.
- Communicates infection control activities to administration, Performance Improvement Committee, the medical staff, and the MEC via committee minutes and/or the Infection Control Committee Chairperson.
- Education:
Associate’s degree required; BSN preferred. - Skills:
Critical thinking, decisive judgment, ability to work with minimal supervision, ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. - Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS) required within one month of hire/transfer date. - Licenses:
Must be a licensed Registered Nurse with the State of Tennessee or a licensed RN from a Compact State with the proper Tennessee paperwork filed within 30 days of hire. - Professional Certification:
Within 2 years of hire/transfer date.
