Position Summary

Plans, implements, and evaluates care of those patients undergoing endoscopic procedures in a timely and accurate manner.

Position Requirements
  • Formal Education / Training:
    • Earned a nursing diploma or degree from a college or university.
    • Licensed in the state of Tennessee.
  • Must respond to hospital within thirty minutes for "on call" requirements.
  • One year experience in medical/surgical nursing.
  • BLS within 90 days of hire.
  • ACLS within 6 months of hire.

Equipment and Skills Training

Standard patient care equipment for services provided. The ability to work well under pressure, to function dependently and independently and to be flexible in applying basic nursing knowledge to a variety of setting. General equipment to area and Network computer system, Pneumatic Tube System, Omnicell Medication System, Meditech Order Entry Computer System; AT&T Language Line, Endoscopy sterile processing equipment.

Physical Environment

An Endoscopy Unit with patient population ranging from adolescence to age > ninety‑nine plus years of age.

Physical Effort
  • Able to communicate in English verbally and legibly.
  • Able to stand/work for up to twelve hours a day.
  • Able to lift and turn patients with assistance up to 250 lbs.
  • Able to transport patient on stretcher or bed as necessary.
Performance Standards
  • Perform a comprehensive assessment on all patients within the appropriate time of admission utilizing skills of observation, communication and examination.
  • Plan the patient’s care on an individual basis, identifying problems/needs, nursing diagnosis, standards of care/practice, interventions consistent with identified problems and attainable outcomes.
  • Collaborate with appropriate team members to effectively coordinate the delivery of patient care in a timely manner.
  • Plan for and provide education, emotional and psychosocial support for patient and family.
  • Function independently with treatments, procedures and equipment appropriate to areas evidenced by adherence to policy, procedure and competency based assessment and no pattern or trend of problem.
  • Handle/transport/stores/prepares/administers medications/solutions safely and in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Document accurately and timely.
  • Reassess patient’s condition, evaluate patient response and modify plan of care accordingly and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain healing and therapeutic environment for the patient and family.
  • Maintain position specific qualifications.
  • Facilitate staff development and train new employees.
  • Demonstrate responsibility for assigned communications and special assignments.
  • Float to other surgical service areas as necessary to staff.
