About The Unit:

The twenty-four-bed Neuroscience unit offers specialized nursing assessment and care to patients with both neurological and neurosurgical diagnoses. Typical patients include those with a diagnosis of stroke, post‑op craniotomy, post‑op discectomy and other back surgeries, as well as post‑cerebral embolization. Unit nursing care is complemented by the expertise of two Neuroscience Coordinators. Integrated into 24 beds, is a 4‑bed EMU that is dedicated to patients who meet criteria and are referred by an Epileptologist for planned admission for evaluation and localization of potential epileptic events through VTrM.

The Charge Nurse is an entry‑level management position responsible for the coordination of care on designated shifts. He/she will provide leadership to the staff members of the unit in the area of patient care.

Responsibilities:

• The charge nurse is a registered nurse who implements the nursing process for each patient regardless of age assigned to his/her care and is responsible for the patient’s care within the parameters of the Kentucky Nurse Practice Act.
• The charge nurse promotes positive patient outcomes; quality of care and initiates change through active involvement in unit‑based and hospital shared‑governance councils.
• Utilizes National Professional Nursing Standards as guidelines, applying critical thinking skills and appropriate nursing judgment.
• Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to improve patient outcomes.
• Serves as a role model by actively participating in continuous professional development, teaching, and learning across the healthcare continuum.

• Active Kentucky RN license required.
• Associate’s degree in nursing required.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required.
