INRAE Presentation
The National Institute of Research for Agriculture, Food and Environment (INRAE) is a public research institution that brings together a community of 12,000 people, with 272 research, service, and experimental units, located in 18 centers across France. INRAE is among the top global leaders in agricultural and food sciences, plant and animal sciences. Its research aims to build solutions for multi-performance agriculture, quality food, and sustainable management of resources and ecosystems.
WorkEnvironment, Missions, and Activities
You will be welcomed in the Infectiology and Public Health Unit UMR 1282 ISP within the Bacterial Infections and Ruminant Immunity (IBIR) team. The team's research focuses on tuberculosis and mastitis. For both human and bovine tuberculosis, the team's objective is to understand the development of the disease, particularly the role of neutrophils. The team's research on bovine tuberculosis also aims to improve its diagnosis to eventually facilitate its management in the field.
The team works on the murine model and also on bovine cell samples and models. It consists of 15 people with skills covering bacteriology, immunology, and molecular biology. The unit is equipped with a cytometry and imaging platform and works in close collaboration with the neighboring experimental infectiology platform.
In this context, your mission will be to participate in the study of immune responses in cattle and in the mouse model during infections by mycobacteria responsible for tuberculosis. Your tasks will range from conducting post-mortem sampling (on cattle/mouse), to characterizing cellular responses and lesions induced by mycobacterial infection. For this, you will be involved in the analysis of the immune response by flow cytometry and by ELISA analyses of the production of cellular mediators.
You will also contribute to the preparation and management of samples and to the staining for immunohistochemistry on tuberculosis lesions. You will be required to conduct bacteriology experiments and work in confined laboratories of security level 2 and 3.
You will be particularly involved in:
- Participating in several collaborative research projects with national partners.
- Performing counts of mycobacteria in laboratory L2 (BCG) and L3 (Mycobacterium bovis).
- Participating in the conduct of post-mortem sampling (on cattle in abattoir; on mice, in animal house A3).
- Participating in the constitution and management of a biobank of biological samples.
- Evaluating the cellular response by isolating cells, staining, and analyzing by flow cytometry.
- Purifying RNA from immune cells and then dosing gene expression by qRT-PCR (classical as well as medium throughput on Fluidigm BIOMARK device).
- Quantifying by biochemical tests the synthesis of cellular mediators (ELISA etc…).
- Conducting bibliographic surveillance.
- Delivering and presenting the obtained results (written and oral).
- Managing laboratory stock
- Participating in collective tasks and laboratory management.
- Work in confined laboratories of level 2 and 3
- Recommended education:
Bac+2/3 BTS, BUT or LP. A regulatory training in animal experimentation (level "applier") would be an asset. - Desired knowledge: skills in microbiology and immunology, biological risk management, knowledge in infectiology and scientific English.
- Appreciable knowledge: biostatistical analyses and creation of graphics
- Appreciable experience: laboratory manipulations (research or city lab, or confined lab), diagnostic tests
- Desired aptitudes: rigor, autonomy, meticulousness, patience, respect for procedures, ability to work in a team, good communication
Experimentations in confined laboratories imply the wearing of personal protective equipment and the handling of pathogenic agents. Vaccination may be recommended according to protocols.
This position requires exercising some functions in a restricted regime area (ZRR). This implies obtaining an access authorization issued after favorable opinion of the competent instances of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research. An unfavorable ministerial opinion for a position assigned to a ZRR unit would result in the cancellation of the envisaged recruitment.
Quality of Life at INRAEBy joining INRAE, you benefit (depending on the type of contract and its duration):
- up to 30 days of leave + 15 RTT per year (full time) - of support for parenthood: CESU child care, leisure benefits;
- of skill development programs: training, career guidance;
- of social support: advice and listening, social and financial aids;
- of vacation and leisure benefits: vacation checks, preferential rate accommodations;
- of sports and cultural activities;
- of collective catering.
