You will work within an experimental poultry unit of approximately thirty people, whose missions include conducting Zootechnical experiments on various poultry species and maintaining genetic lines of scientific interest. The unit also has a feed manufacturing workshop, an incubator, and an experimental slaughterhouse, allowing for research projects to be conducted under controlled conditions. You will interact with two dedicated teams: one responsible for experimental protocols and another specialized in managing genetic lines.
You will contribute to activities related to poultry farming, monitoring experiments, and implementing scientific protocols on physiology, behavior, reproduction, and genetics of poultry. This position will allow you to participate in diverse scientific projects involving different poultry species and various farming systems, from controlled environment buildings to alternative outdoor systems. Your work will directly contribute to the quality of experiments and the welfare of animals.
In this context, you will be responsible for the following activities:
Animal Care and Experimentation
- Ensure daily care for animals and monitor their health and welfare.
- Participate in the implementation of experimental protocols: hatching, growth, breeding, and experimental slaughter.
- Perform manipulations as outlined in protocols: weighing, sampling, blood collection, artificial insemination, or other technical interventions.
- Participate in the management and monitoring of animal lots.
- Contribute to the maintenance and monitoring of poultry genetic lines of scientific interest. Facility and Equipment Management
- Maintain animal housing facilities and breeding areas.
- Control environmental parameters: temperature, light, ventilation, or noise.
- Prepare, manage, and provide breeding and experimental equipment.
- Ensure the proper functioning of equipment and report malfunctions.
- Ensure the disposal of waste in compliance with hygiene and safety rules. Technical Follow-Up and Collective Functioning
- Maintain records and observation notebooks related to experiments.
- Ensure the tracking of animal entries and exits.
- Perform euthanasia in accordance with current regulations.
- Participate in working groups related to quality, prevention, safety, and animal welfare.
- Interact with scientific and technical teams involved in projects.
The activity will be carried out in various experimental buildings, including facilities with controlled environments and alternative farming systems. Depending on the needs of experimental protocols, schedule adjustments may be necessary.
Required Education and SkillsYou have a background in animal production, livestock, or agriculture. Prior experience in poultry farming or animal experimentation is desirable.
