Location: Gatlinburg
This position is located in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Resource Management and Science Division.
The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period is March through November, but the season may be extended or reduced due to weather, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty:
June 14, 2026.
Position is being filled under the Field Unit Local Hiring Authority (FUL). The role directly affects the design, operation, and adequacy of natural resource activities.
Responsibilities- Support design and operation of natural resource activities.
- Collect and analyze field data, maintaining quality control and reporting findings to staff and the public.
- Assist in controlled environment plant cultivation and livestock production records as required.
- Perform sample collection of stream fish populations with standardized procedures.
- Hike and walk in mountain streams carrying heavy packs, as necessary.
Minimum qualifications (by closing date 05/15/2026) are:
- EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 level, including research activity or control program work, nursery work with controlled environments, dairy farm production record keeping, standardized sampling of stream fish, data collection, quality control, and use of computer programs for data management.
- EDUCATION: Completion of at least one full year of graduate education leading to a Master’s degree or equivalent, with a minimum of 18 semester hours in scientific or technical courses (biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics). Transcripts required.
- COMBINED
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Combine education (semester hours divided by 18) and full-time experience (months divided by 12). Total must equal at least 100%. Transcripts required. - VOLUNTEER
EXPERIENCE:
Paid or unpaid experience such as National Service programs (Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other community or professional organizations is recognized for credit.
