As a Field Service Technician, you will assist with on‑site installations, troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance of telecommunications products and equipment that TDS sells and leases. You will have direct, face‑to‑face contact with our customers and is expected to be proactive with the sales of TDS services and products. Services include, but are not limited to, Telephony, Video/CATV/DBS, Internet, and/or high speed networks.
This position exceeds customer expectations by performing extraordinary customer service, identifying customer needs, and providing them with communications solutions. This position also understands how to use and demonstrate TDS products and seeks sales opportunities while educating the customer.
This role has opportunity to be staffed on a 4x10 Wednesday–Saturday or Sunday–Wednesday schedule, working four 10‑hour shifts (8:00 AM–7:00 PM). Monday‑Friday, 8‑hour shifts are also available. Additional overtime may be required as‑needed, and participation in an on‑call rotation is required.
Due to in‑field support and on‑call requirements, the individual selected for this position will be required to reside within a 60‑minute driving distance from the Parsons, TN warehouse located at 265 Old Perryville Road, Parsons TN 38363.
This position can be hired at either a Field Service Technician (requisition ‑29411) or Field Service Technician‑Network (requisition ‑29412) level depending on the skills and qualifications of the candidate. Responsibilities- Assist with and perform on‑site installing, troubleshooting, testing, splicing, repairing, and maintaining telephone equipment and general network equipment, customer premise equipment, Video/CATV/DBS, fiber optic/copper facilities and other TDS products & services for new and existing customers.
- Identify location of defective cable using various test equipment and repair buried, aerial, underground, and/or customer cable.
- Locate cable and fiber in response to customer requests and/or construction needs; pole climbing and operating construction equipment is required.
- Mark company underground and buried facilities to prevent damage and keep an orderly log of all locate requests in our exchange area.
- Perform cable fault acceptance tests on newly constructed facilities.
- Provide troubleshooting support techniques and corrections; respond to “trouble” dispatches.
- Support enhancing and maintaining record systems (cross connects, line groups, network elements, etc.).
- Provide excellent customer service and proactively educate and sell TDS products and services to customers.
- Gain working knowledge of RUS Standards and grounding practices associated with splicing and maintenance of outside plant facilities and equipment.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Must follow the TDS attendance guidelines to meet business needs, including obligations to customers.
- Upon hire, successfully complete customer‑specific requirements, which may include a background check administered by the customer.
- Must be available for on‑call/standby responsibilities and may require occasional travel; willing to work overtime as needed.
- Must successfully pass all components of the Safety Course curriculum.
- Maintain DOT requirements related to operating vehicles with a combined GVRW of >10,000 lbs.
- A+ certification and computer networking experience.
