Maintenance Lead – 3rd Shift

The 3rd shift maintenance lead oversees multi-craft maintenance activities to ensure reliable operation of production and facility equipment. This role works Sunday through Thursday from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. and combines hands-on technical work with leadership responsibilities. The maintenance lead installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains a wide range of industrial equipment while serving as the primary technical resource on shift, ensuring accurate documentation, effective communication across shifts, and continuous improvement in maintenance practices.

Responsibilities
  • Perform multi-craft maintenance tasks, including installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining production and facility equipment to support operational goals.
  • Execute preventive maintenance on AC/DC motors, pumps, sumps, gearboxes, hydraulic units, analog and digital drives, lift trucks, machinery, and other industrial equipment.
  • Safely disassemble equipment, identify and recommend appropriate replacement parts, and reassemble equipment to restore reliable operation.
  • Apply sound judgment to determine when parts require repair or replacement to optimize equipment reliability and cost effectiveness.
  • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems, applying a strong understanding of fluid power principles.
  • Lead shift work execution by organizing tasks, prioritizing work orders, and ensuring maintenance activities are completed safely and efficiently.
  • Act as the primary technical resource for maintenance during 3rd shift, providing guidance and support to other technicians as needed.
  • Champion failure reporting and root cause analysis by documenting equipment failures and participating in structured problem-solving activities.
  • Participate in and support continuous improvement initiatives focused on equipment reliability, maintenance processes, and overall plant performance.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of all required maintenance documentation, including work orders, failure reports, and equipment history records.
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues, including single and three phase wiring, using appropriate tools and techniques to identify and resolve problems.
  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, ladder logic, and electrical specifications to diagnose and repair equipment.
  • Work with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) to troubleshoot issues and, when needed, assist with creating or modifying programs.
  • Install and replace drives, including AC, DC, and variable frequency drives, and verify proper operation after installation.
  • Use measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators, as well as electrical test equipment including amp meters, ohmmeters, meggers, and voltmeters.
  • Support and apply reliability principles and predictive technologies to identify potential equipment issues before failure.
  • Participate in failure reporting and root cause analysis activities to prevent recurrence of equipment problems.
  • Collaborate with other shifts by communicating equipment status, ongoing issues, and outstanding work to ensure continuity of maintenance efforts.
  • Follow all safety procedures and standards while performing maintenance tasks, ensuring a safe working environment for self and others.
Essential Skills
  • Proven experience as a multi-craft maintenance technician in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Hands-on experience performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair on AC/DC motors, pumps, sumps, gearboxes, hydraulic units, analog and digital drives, lift trucks, and industrial machinery.
  • Demonstrated ability to safely disassemble, repair, and reassemble industrial equipment, including identifying and recommending replacement parts.
  • Proven experience and understanding of hydraulics and pneumatics, including fluid power principles.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting and electrical maintenance skills, including working with single and three phase wiring.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, ladder logic, and electrical specifications.
