Responsibilities
Mountain Youth Academy is located in Mountain City, Tennessee, near Johnson City, Boone, and Abingdon. We operate a 120‑bed residential treatment facility that evaluates, diagnoses, and treats a wide range of behavioral health issues for young adolescents.
The Residential Counselor provides direct individual and group treatment and other aspects of patient care to patients with psychiatric disorders, addictive disease disorders, or related substance abuse or chemical dependency problems, including those dually diagnosed. The role ensures safety and well‑being of patients, maintains the therapeutic milieu, and collaborates with supervisors and management.
Job Duties /Responsibilities:- Completes non‑clinical assignment tasks related to the admission, transfer and discharge process.
- Assists patients with psychiatric and substance abuse diagnoses in meeting immediate needs with the ultimate goal of self‑maintenance under supervision.
- Collaborates with team members and participates in multidisciplinary team meetings to report patient progress.
- Documents and reports patient progress and regression.
- Follows procedures, daily schedules, policies, and practices prescribed by the agency.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Associates Degree (preferred).
- Bachelor's Degree (preferred).
- Preferred one year of health‑care experience.
- Verbal de‑escalation skills.
- Ability to make quick decisions in crisis situations.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Provision of mentoring/shadowing as assigned.
