PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: Under general supervision of Dispatch and Terminal Manager, shall be responsible for providing bus transportation on daily routes when called in, as needed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

Ensures that all actions are in concert with the Board policies as well as the mission statement, beliefs, objectives and parameters found in the Board’s strategic plan.

Participates in job training and professional growth opportunities in order to enhance ability to perform the essential functions of the job.

Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.

Operates school buses to:

Transport students to and from school in a safe and timely fashion from assigned locations per approved schedule.

Responsible for maintaining order and ensure adherence to safety rules by:

Explaining rules and regulations to students riding on the bus.
Using assertive discipline and other acceptable techniques in dealing with student discipline.
Completing disciplinary reports for students who do not respond to disciplinary actions.
Turning in disciplinary reports to field supervisors.

Performs daily pre-trip inspection of the bus as mandated by the State.

Reports all accidents, mechanical problems, and hazardous conditions immediately.

Responsible for the care, cleanliness and gassing of bus driven.

Attends training courses and meetings to increase skills related to transportation.

Prepares reports and maintains records as requested.

Carries out and obeys all laws and regulations of Rockford School District #205,

Transportation Department, State, Federal and other regulatory bodies.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Commercial CDL license with all the endorsements needed to drive the school bus provided.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

:
Basic reading and math skills. Good vision and hearing is essential.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Moderate in-district travel as well as intermittent in-state and out-of-state travel. Intermittent prolonged and irregular hours of work.
