PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Under general supervision of Dispatch and Terminal Manager, the Sub Bus Driver shall provide bus transportation on daily routes when called in, as needed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

None.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensure all actions align with Board policies and the mission statement.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance job performance.
  • Perform related duties assigned to maintain an efficient work environment.
  • Operate school buses to:
    • Transport students to and from school in a safe and timely manner according to approved schedules.
  • Maintain order and adherence to safety rules by:
    • Explaining rules and regulations to students on the bus.
    • Using assertive discipline and other acceptable techniques for student discipline.
    • Completing and submitting disciplinary reports for students who do not respond to disciplinary actions.
  • Perform daily pre‑trip inspections of the bus as mandated by state regulations.
  • Report all accidents, mechanical problems, and hazardous conditions immediately.
  • Maintain care, cleanliness, and fueling of the bus.
  • Attend training courses and meetings to enhance transportation skills.
  • Prepare reports and maintain records as requested.
  • Obey all laws and regulations of Rockford School District #205, the Transportation Department, state, federal, and other regulatory bodies.
  • QUALIFICATIONS

    Commercial CDL license with all required endorsements for school bus operation.

    KNOWLEDGE,

    SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    Basic reading and math skills. Good vision and hearing are essential.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Moderate in‑district travel as well as intermittent in‑state and out‑of‑state travel. Intermittent prolonged and irregular work hours.

    Physical demands include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger use, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

    Physical work levels range from sedentary to very heavy.

    Visual acuity requirements include machine operations, mechanics, mobile equipment, and other related tasks.

    The worker is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme heat or cold for more than one hour, noise that may require shouting, and various hazards such as moving mechanical parts, electrical current, and chemicals.
