Compensation Range: $27.10 - $28.99 per hour

Purpose of the Position

Under the direction of the Transportation Manager, coordinate and support the scheduling and execution of field trip logistics to include driver assignments, and compliance with district and state policies. Support the safe and efficient operation of student transportation services by coordinating daily driver activities, managing route logistics, and maintaining compliance with district and state regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. In addition to the requirements listed below, regular attendance is an essential function of this position.

  • Ensures that all actions are in concert with the Board policies as well as the mission statement, beliefs, objectives and parameters found in the Board's strategic plan.
  • Participates in job training and professional growth opportunities in order to enhance ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
  • Schedules field trips for departments and schools.
  • Enters field trips requests in Excel spreadsheet and sends confirmations to schools/departments.
  • Bills schools and departments for field trips taken.
  • Implements assignment of driver routes, schedules, and buses to be driven.
  • Checks in bus drivers and field trip drivers and monitors their movements during the operation of their assigned trips.
  • Assigns substitute buses and drivers for field trips where appropriate.
  • Informs drivers of field trips or extra trip assignments.
  • May drive a school bus on an emergency basis as needed.
  • Prepares reports and maintains records as required (within the areas of responsibility).
  • Various clerical duties such as answering telephones, checking student transportation information, and interacting with parents and school staff
  • Qualifications

    High school diploma or GED certificate. Must have or be able to obtain (within 60 days of hire) and maintain a Class "B" CDL with School Bus, Passenger and Airbrake endorsements.

    Knowledge,

    Skills and Abilities

    1. Ability to demonstrate qualities aligned to our core values of Character, Communication, Collaboration and Continuous Improvement.

    2. Computer experience to include e‑mail and Microsoft suite.

    3. Knowledge of the roads and routes within the city of Rockford.

    4. Proficient in Spanish (dependent upon department need)

    Work Calendar

    12‑Months

    Working Conditions

    Moderate-in-district travel as well as intermittent in-state and out-of-state travel. Intermittent prolonged and irregular hours of work.
