Key Responsibilities- Operate vehicles in accordance with all traffic laws, maintaining safe speeds and following proper driving techniques.
- Conduct thorough pre-shift inspections of the vehicle, checking for mechanical issues, fluid levels, lights, and tire pressure, documenting any defects.
- Properly secure cargo using appropriate methods to prevent shifting or damage during transport.
- Accurately record driving hours, rest stops, and other relevant information in accordance with DOT regulations.
- Follow assigned routes, navigating efficiently using maps and GPS systems while adhering to delivery schedules.
- Understand and comply with all DOT regulations regarding weight limits, hours of service, and driver qualifications.
- Report any accidents, mechanical issues, or safety concerns promptly to dispatch.
- Interact with customers professionally, loading and unloading cargo as required, and following delivery instructions.
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL):
Valid CDL with appropriate endorsements based on vehicle type. - Medical certification:
Pass DOT-mandated medical examinations. - Driving record:
Maintain a clean driving record with minimal violations. - Background check:
Pass a criminal background check. - Physical ability:
Meet physical requirements for prolonged driving and lifting cargo.
- Handle paperwork:
Complete necessary documentation including bills of lading, delivery receipts, and inspection reports. - Perform basic maintenance:
Conduct minor vehicle maintenance tasks such as checking tire pressure and fluid levels. - Work in different environments:
Drive in various weather conditions and across different terrains.
To qualify as a driver under the Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). you must typically be at least 21 years old, possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL), have a clean driving record, pass a physical examination, be able to read and speak English proficiently, and meet specific requirements depending on the type of cargo you are transporting, such as hazardous materials endorsements if needed.

- Age:
Minimum of 21 years old to operate a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) in interstate commerce. - Driver's License:
Possess a valid CDL with appropriate endorsements for the vehicle type. - Medical Certification:
Pass a DOT physical examination to demonstrate fitness to drive. - Driving Record:
Maintain a clean driving record with no major violations. - English Proficiency:
Ability to read and speak English fluently. - Hazardous Materials Endorsement:
