Project Engineer
This onsite Project Engineer role supports a large ground-up retail construction project in Terre Haute, IN. You will work closely with the onsite Superintendent and cross-functional teams to drive schedule, quality, safety, and coordination for a new approximately 128,000 sq ft store anchoring a major mixed-use development. This position offers the opportunity to gain broad project experience, contribute directly to project success, and potentially transition into a full-time, travel or relocation-based role on future projects.
Responsibilities- Assist the onsite Superintendent with daily project activities and coordination tasks.
- Interpret and understand construction drawings and technical documents to identify and help resolve QA/QC concerns.
- Support technology-related activities, including the use of project management and scheduling software.
- Update and maintain project schedules to reflect current progress and upcoming work.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams, trade partners, and stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution.
- Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress, quality, and safety compliance.
- Provide technical support to the project team, including clarifying construction details and processes.
- Maintain strict compliance with safety and quality standards on the jobsite.
- Assist with managing project resources, including materials, equipment, and subcontractor activities.
- Prepare and distribute status reports and updates for project stakeholders.
- Help track and support key construction processes such as RFIs, submittals, and change orders.
- Identify tasks proactively and provide support wherever needed to keep the project moving forward.
- High school diploma, GED, or higher level of education.
- 3 or more years of construction experience, preferably on active job sites.
- Full understanding of construction terms and processes such as RFIs, submittals, and change orders.
- Experience working on construction sites with heavy equipment and established safety standards.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (such as Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Experience using construction scheduling software.
- Ability to read and understand construction drawings and technical documents.
- Motivated self-starter who can identify tasks independently and take initiative.
- Strong communication and coordination skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and quality on site.
Skills & Qualifications
- Associate degree or higher in a related field is a plus.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification is preferred.
- Proficiency with Procore or similar construction management software is a plus.
- Experience supporting large retail or commercial construction projects is beneficial.
- Willingness to relocate to Columbus, Indiana, or travel to other project sites after project completion to pursue full-time opportunities.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in documentation and reporting.
- Comfort working with technology and adopting new project tools as needed.
This is a full-time onsite role based in Terre Haute, IN, supporting a major ground-up retail construction project. You will work primarily in a jobsite trailer, as well as outside and inside the building as it is constructed. The typical schedule is 5 days per week, approximately 40–45 hours per week. Some Saturdays will be required; when a Saturday is worked, the schedule is flexed to provide another weekday off, such as Monday.
The environment involves active construction with heavy equipment, adherence to strict safety standards, and regular field presence. You will use technologies such as Microsoft Office, construction scheduling software, and potentially Procore to support project management.
