The Department of Physics, Optical Engineering, and Nano Engineering at Rose‑Hulman Institute of Technology seeks applicants for a tenure‑track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level to support the Optical Engineering degree program beginning August 2026.
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in optical engineering, optics, photonics, or a related field by the time of appointment. Preference will be given to those focused on optical systems design or engineering. Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching or strong potential for it is required, with an emphasis on individualized student support. Candidates should embrace the mission and vision of Rose‑Hulman, enhance student engagement and community, and be willing to broaden and deepen the educational experience of our students.
EssentialJob Functions
- Teach introductory physics courses and laboratories, upper‑division optical engineering courses, and lab courses.
- Develop and teach upper‑level electives in the faculty’s area of expertise.
- Advise and mentor undergraduate students, fostering their academic and professional growth.
- Engage in continued professional development and contribute to the department, institute, and professional communities.
- Ph.D. in optical engineering, optics, photonics, or related field.
- Strong record or potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching.
- Enthusiasm for inclusive pedagogical practices and cultural fluency.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a collegial team.
