Responsibilities & Qualifications
The Novelis Terre Haute, IN team is seeking a dynamic and experienced Sr. Mechanical Engineer for our container and foil rolling and finishing plant. The Sr Mechanical Engineer reports to the EMRA Leader. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the optimization and reliability of the plants' pneumatic and hydraulic systems, coolant systems, rolls, bearings, cylinders, cranes, building structure, etc. Additionally, they will be responsible for managing projects related to changes and/or new installation of the various technologies, equipment and building structures, associated with the process and plant equipment.
Responsibilities:
* Use the facility's internal and corporate resources, along with third parties to develop engineering knowledge and skills required to continually enhance and optimize asset safety and performance.
* Assist all levels of the organization, where needed, in advance solving of mechanical and structural systems and/or equipment issues.
* Analyze and recommend preventive maintenance programs and provide value analysis engineering driving the continuous improvement of the plant.
* Support the assigned machine center(s) in managing the hopper of improvement activities in support of the strategic plans.
* Provide leadership and guidance to ensure engineering activities related to machine center improvements are supported and appropriately considered for funding, to ensure they are completed in a timely manner, on budget and sustained.
* Engage with operators, mechanics, electricians, planner, process leader, shift specialist and reliability leaders on a regular basis to ensure the effectiveness of the PM/PdM system from an engineering perspective.
* Ensure reliability is an integral part of all projects and process optimization activities.
* Assist the reliability organization in coordinating and performing Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) for all significant failures for the machine center and help ensure the appropriate training, communication, documentation and PM/PdM's are available and/or are created
* Assess the current assets, relative to its life cycle and capability in achieving the plant's business plan and recommend appropriate equipment changes to achieve and sustain it.
* Evaluate and recommend changes and/or new technologies which could differentiate Novelis in the market place through product quality, shorter lead times, cost, reduction in environment footprint and energy consumption, improved safety and health, etc.
* Actively support the annual and five (5) year capital plan and all assigned projects, which in turn support the plant's annual and strategic plans, ensuring the sustainability of the business.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology from an accredited university or institution.
* Excellent communication (oral and written) skills; ability to collaborate with all levels in the organization
* Ability to coordinate and prioritize responsibility; able to balance multiple tasks at once without sacrificing attention to detail; flexible and able to operate in a fast-paced environment.
* Lead and develop other personnel to accomplish personal, plant, and corporate objectives
* Good strong computer skills, experience with AutoCAD, Inventor, or other 3D modeling software.
* Ability to use Microsoft Office software, including but not limited to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
* Experience using computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), preferably SAP
* Project management experience, budget management, scheduling, coordinating contractors, and execution
