Job Summary

The Manager, Gas Compliance supports the execution and continuous improvement of the natural gas regulatory compliance program across CenterPoint Energy's service territory. This role oversees day‑to‑day compliance activities, supports regulatory audit readiness, and monitors adherence to federal, state, and local pipeline safety regulations.

Reporting to the Director of Gas Compliance, this position works closely with operational teams to translate regulatory requirements into effective processes, manage corrective actions, and promote consistent compliance practices across regions and business units. The Manager also plays a key role in strengthening compliance monitoring, improving regulatory processes, and supporting safe and reliable gas operations.

Essential Functions
  • Support implementation and ongoing administration of the natural gas regulatory compliance program.
  • Monitor compliance with PHMSA, DOT, state PUCs, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Track regulatory changes and assist in communicating impacts to affected operational teams.
  • Maintain compliance documentation, records, and evidence needed to demonstrate regulatory adherence.
  • Coordinate preparation activities for regulatory audits, inspections, and investigations.
  • Support field and office teams during audits by ensuring timely responses and documentation.
  • Track audit findings, observations, and action items to ensure timely resolution.
  • Manage corrective action tracking, documentation, and closure processes.
  • Facilitate root‑cause analysis efforts with operations, engineering, and safety teams.
  • Support compliance risk assessments and assist in developing mitigation plans.
  • Partner with Gas Operations, Engineering, and Operational Standards to ensure procedures align with regulatory requirements.
  • Support integration of compliance requirements into operational processes, work practices, and technical standards.
  • Assist in reviewing and updating procedures, manuals, and compliance‑related documentation.
  • Support preparation and validation of regulatory reports and compliance metrics.
  • Maintain compliance dashboards, tracking tools, and reporting systems.
  • Analyze compliance data to identify trends, gaps, and improvement opportunities.
  • Serve as a key liaison between Compliance and Operations, Engineering, Field Support, Safety, GIS, and Legal.
  • Support Gas Capital Delivery teams to help ensure projects and construction activities meet regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in incident review processes and support regulatory communication preparation as needed.
Education
  • Bachelor's degree required; preferred fields include Engineering, Environmental Science, Regulatory Affairs, Business, or related technical discipline.
  • Professional certifications in compliance, regulatory affairs, PE, PMP, or Six Sigma are a plus.
Experience
  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in natural gas operations, pipeline safety, regulatory compliance, or related energy infrastructure fields.
  • 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience supporting regulatory audits, inspections, or compliance monitoring activities.
  • Familiarity with PHMSA, DOT pipeline safety regulations (Parts 190‑199), and state regulatory environments.
  • Utility or pipeline operator experience strongly preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Able to communicate written and verbal communications either in person or through technical equipment such as telephone.
  • Able to demonstrate and apply manual dexterity to operate a personal computer and common office equipment.
  • Able to work a varied schedule with projects and deadlines requiring the ability to meet changing demands.
Working Conditions
  • Required to participate in CenterPoint Energy's Emergency Operation Plan (EOP).
  • Able to work in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Able to work indoors in an office environment and outdoors with occasional exposure to all weather conditions, equipment, and noise when at field installation sites.
