QC Technician
The QC Technician will be responsible for performing quality control on various materials used for producing concrete and/or hot mix asphalt in accordance with test methods, specifications, and Milestone LP protocol. Essential functions include performing quality control tests, obtaining samples of hot mix from a delivery truck, performing all QC and QA tests required, assisting with mix designs, communicating with internal/external customers, collaborating with multiple work groups to ensure proper tests and requirements are met, meeting INDOT deadlines, attending training, obtaining qualifications from INDOT, maintaining certifications, promoting and maintaining a safe work environment, exhibiting safe work behaviors, and wearing all prescribed PPE.
Education Qualifications
- Required High School or Equivalent
Experience Qualifications
- Experience working with concrete in the heavy/highway industry preferred
- 3+ years experience within the asphalt heavy/highway industry
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to perform mathematical computations, of increasing complexity, by hand, with calculators and Excel
- Ability to read and comprehend technical specifications
- Ability to read measuring devices in metric and English
Licenses and Certifications
- ACI Field Level 1 Certification Preferred
- INDOT Quality Control Certification (must obtain if not currently hold)
- Asphalt QC Certification (must obtain if not currently hold)
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
- Lifts, pushes, pulls, pours or carries heavy objects and buckets of material
- Ability to lift 60 pounds consistently and up to 80 pounds occasionally
- Walks and stands for long periods of time
- Bends, stoops, squats, reaches to move, mix and test materials
- Uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue
- Uses good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination, with the ability to quickly move arms and legs
- Possess excellent stamina to work between 8-12 hours per day
- Drives distances between labs, plants and job sites, as needed
- Ability to work both night and daytime hours, weekend, and overtime
