This position will perform intermediate work at renewable energy projects, including solar PV and energy storage power plants. Responsibilities include independently maintaining, testing, and troubleshooting AC and DC circuits ranging from medium voltage 34.5 kV to 12 VDC. The equipment ranges from motors, motor controls, electrical switch gear, transformers, inverters, solar PV panels, panel tracking mechanisms, BESS systems, electrical protective devices, generators, lighting, power supplies, HVAC, security systems, and battery support systems.
The role involves troubleshooting, overhauling equipment and performing preventative and predictive maintenance activities.
- Independently test, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a range of moderately complex issues with solar or BESS equipment.
- Replace solar PV power plant related electrical equipment.
- Test, maintain, troubleshoot, and replace battery energy storage plant related electrical equipment.
- Perform plant related preventative, reactive, and predictive maintenance scheduled by the Site Manager and/or Lead Technician.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient and safe maintenance activities.
- Adhere to safety protocols and regulations, such as first aid, fall arrest, and electrical safety training.
- Proficiently read and interpret electrical schematics, equipment manuals and standard operating procedures.
- Maintain accurate documentation of services and maintenance performed.
- Apply reliability‑based maintenance processes and work towards certifications such as CMRT/CMRP.
- Gather technical information from electrical schematics, vendor information, and applicable codes.
- Respond to and resolve unplanned time‑sensitive equipment and site repair activities.
- Technical School preferred, High School or equivalent required or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2‑4 years of relevant experience.
- Electrical experience preferred, but not required.
- TX Electrician’s License or related certification.
- Proficient use of electrical testing equipment such as digital multimeters, amp clamps, and insulation testers.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical plan sets, equipment manuals and SOPs with increasing understanding.
- Comfortable with computer programs (e.g., Microsoft Office) and willing to learn other internal applications.
- Applies LOTO principles independently.
- Consistently uses required personal protective equipment in accordance with safety guidelines.
- Prepares job safety analysis and performs safety observations.
- Willingness to work outside of regular hours if required.
- Willingness and ability to travel for training and/or site support as needed.
- Availability of safe and reliable transportation to and from the job site and a residence within a 1‑hour drive of the assigned plant location.
- Willingness to safely lift up to 50 lbs (assisted when needed).
- Ability to safely use unpowered and powered hand tools.
- A valid driver’s license operable in all 50 states and a clean driving record. A clean record means: in the last 3 years, no driving‑related suspension, revocation, or cancellation; no disqualifying offenses; no more than two moving violations and no reckless driving incidents; and in the last 5 years, no major offenses including DUI/DWI, refusal to test, leaving the scene, driving a commercial vehicle without a CDL, or at‑fault fatal accidents.
