Overview
The City of Terrell is seeking a highly capable Assistant Director of Finance to support the continued strengthening and modernization of its financial operations. With new leadership and a renewed commitment to strong governance, the City is deliberately building a Finance Department grounded in consistency, accountability, and long-term sustainability.
Reporting directly to the Director of Finance, this position serves as the operational anchor of the department. The Assistant Director plays a central, hands‑on role in day‑to‑day financial operations while partnering closely with leadership to implement improved systems, reinforce internal controls, and ensure reliable financial reporting. The role is structured to provide meaningful exposure to executive‑level responsibilities and is well suited for a professional seeking continued growth toward a Finance Director position.
Key Responsibilities- Direct oversight of daily accounting operations, reconciliations, and financial close
- Leadership of utility billing operations and implementation of a new billing system
- Support of audit preparation, ACFR development, and GAAP/GASB compliance
- Strengthening internal controls, processes, and departmental consistency
- Serving as Acting Finance Director as needed
The City is seeking a hands‑on accounting leader with a strong foundation in governmental or closely related finance who is comfortable operating in both the details and a leadership capacity.
