Position Overview
Join the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) at the Terrell Center for Youth. Responsibilities include developing hospital‑wide recreational activity programs, providing training to technicians, maintaining supplies, and delivering individual and group rehabilitation therapy. Responsibilities- Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive recreational activity programs hospital‑wide.
- Provide training and continuing education for new and current Rehab Therapy Technicians.
- Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment, ensuring proper use and return.
- Provide individual and group rehabilitation therapy services, instructing patients to achieve optimal performance.
- Document patient progress, conduct observations, and complete reports in the computer‑based medical record.
- Participate as a member of the multidisciplinary recovery team and hospital performance improvement program.
- Assist in disaster response and continuity of operations as needed.
- Work regular shifts and occasional rotating schedules including overtime as required.
- Lead development of activity‑based programs tailored to patient abilities.
- Coordinate hospital‑wide activities independently or with other departments.
- Modify programming for patients with diverse disabilities, cognitive levels, and behavioral issues.
- Prepare therapeutic materials and manage supplies inventory.
- Operate and maintain a state vehicle for patient transportation, ensuring safety protocols.
- Ensure therapeutic facilities remain clean, safe, and compliant with infection control.
- Knowledge of policies, procedures, and rehabilitative processes.
- Understanding of group dynamics and recovery application.
- Skill in observing/identifying patient behavior; using recreation and leisure activities.
- Ability to plan individualized instruction, assess functional levels, and prepare concise reports.
- Effective oral and written communication and training ability.
- Ability to plan work activities and manage program logistics.
- Valid Texas driver’s license (or out‑of‑state license with vetted record); vehicle used for patient transport.
- Certified CPR.
- Certified Rehab Therapy Technician (PTA) or obtain within one year of hire.
- Associate degree in rehabilitation preferred; senior high school diploma or equivalent acceptable with ≥3 years of relevant experience.
- Three (3) years of experience developing treatment/support plans for individuals with mental illness or intellectual/developmental disabilities.
- Must pass fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks.
- Minimum age 18; applicants for Terrell Center for Youth must be 21.
- May require overtime, extended hours, and flexible work schedule.
- Compliance with HHSC immunization policy; vaccination required according to contact level with patients.
