Brief

Job Description

We are looking for a Clinical Pharmacist (Pharmacist II) to support Texas Health and Human Services Commission’s patient care facilities. The pharmacist will plan and coordinate clinical pharmaceutical programs, provide consultative services, review medication orders, and lead pharmacy performance improvement activities. The role requires advanced pharmaceutical expertise, strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently under the Director of Pharmacy.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and coordinate clinical pharmaceutical programs and activities.
  • Provide consultative services to medical and other clinical staff, including formal written consults and patient interviews.
  • Coordinate pharmacy staffing services and serve on rotating after‑hours on‑call schedule.
  • Monitor drug therapy for therapeutic response, contraindications, interactions, allergies, and adverse reactions.
  • Perform medication order review for appropriateness, cost effectiveness, and compliance with local policy, formulary, TJC, CMS, TAC, and agency regulations.
  • Review and interpret laboratory reports.
  • Develop and implement pharmaceutical education activities for staff and patients.
  • Participate in pharmacy dispensing process and verify technician work.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute pharmaceutical performance improvement activities.
  • Participate in disaster response, disaster recovery, or Continuity of Operations activation as needed.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Pharmacy principles and techniques.
  • Federal and state pharmacy laws.
  • Psychiatric pharmacotherapy.
  • Pharmacy computer software operation.
  • Laboratory report interpretation.
  • Written and oral communication.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and email.
  • Recordkeeping and documentation accuracy.
  • Medication order review for safety and accuracy.
  • Effective teamwork and relationship building.
Qualifications
  • Registered as a Pharmacist with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Board certification or eligibility in psychiatric pharmacy preferred.
  • Minimum two years of pharmaceutical work experience.
  • Graduate from an accredited college or university with a degree in pharmacy.
  • Unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in Texas.
Additional Information
  • Applicants must pass fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks including CANRS, Nurse Aid, Medication Aide, and LEIE.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old; applicants for Waco Center for Youth must be 21.
  • Flexibility in work hours, overtime, and extended hours may be required.
  • Compliance with HHSC immunization policy and state hospital vaccination requirements is mandatory.
