Job Description

The Data Analyst II performs routine (journey‑level) data analysis work, creating and running queries, analyzing data, and producing reports and graphics. Activities include running routine reports, responding to ad hoc requests, and developing new reports to address identified needs.
Responsibilities also include ongoing development and technical support of local databases and training users across the hospital.
- Attend work on a regular basis; may be required to work a specific shift schedule, a rotating schedule, extended shift, or overtime.
- Create and support databases and data collection systems for hospital users, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
- Monitor data system usage to promote accurate data input and create or adjust queries to meet changing needs.
- Provide relevant analysis of results and remove unnecessary information.
- Consult with internal and external customers to clarify data needs and deliver solutions.
- Identify existing reports that meet data needs and adjust or create new reports as required.
- Conduct ad hoc data analysis in response to requests from Hospital Management, State Hospitals Central Administration, and department heads.
- Run production reports on a daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis, interpreting results to identify outliers and presenting data effectively.
- Use queries and reports to conduct audits or monitor for irregularities in electronic medical record and other databases.
- Assist in training, modify procedures, or take responsive action based on analysis results.
- Participate in disaster response or continuity of operations (COOP) activation, potentially requiring alternate shift patterns or locations.
Skills And Abilities
(KSAs)
- Knowledge of common statistical measures and their relevance to data analysis.
- Knowledge of the operation of electronic medical records and specific information types contained within them.
- Skills in managing data in relational database management systems, including creating queries, linking tables, extracting relevant data, and assessing accuracy and validity.
- Skills in using computers and common software programs used in data collection and analysis.
- Ability to compile, review, and analyze data from existing systems and create reports and presentation graphics.
- Ability to communicate with clinicians and department heads regarding data needs.
- Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accuracy.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with major coursework in data science, business analytics, computer science, computer information systems, management information systems, accounting, finance, mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related field.
- OR four (4) years’ equivalent experience in one or more of the above fields.
- One year of experience in data analysis, research, and report design.
- One year of experience with database software programs.
- One year of experience creating queries and reports.
- Experience can be overlapping.
- Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aid, Medication Aide, Employee Misconduct, and List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE). Males between the ages of 18‑25 must be registered with the Selective Service.

Waco and Terrell Center for Youth applicants must be 21 years of age. - Flexibility in work hours may be required; overtime and extended hours may be necessary.
- Compliance with HHSC immunization policy and state hospital operating procedures related to immunizations is required. Employees must be vaccinated according to their level of contact; unvaccinated employees for influenza may need to wear a mask.
