Shift Lead; 3rd

Description

Supervises and coordinates the activities of workers engaged in producing custom thermoplastic extrusions by performing the following duties.

• Oversees production on all extrusion lines, including quality control, coordinating manpower and material requirements on the shift, monitoring output, and managing time and equipment.
• Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignments.
• Interprets company policy to workers on the shift pertaining to overtime, absenteeism, tardiness, alcohol or drug use, and enforces safety regulations.
• Responsible for the welfare of employees on the shift, including breaks, general safety, recommendations on working conditions, and administering decisions pertaining to health and safety.
• Interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers and assigns duties.
• Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
• Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
• Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of the shop, department, or work crew.
• Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems.
• Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
• Works with workers to set up machines and equipment.
• Performs activities of workers supervised when required.
• Monitors the job performance of each worker on the shift and evaluates them formally or informally.
• Provides on‑job training to new employees on the shift, following management guidelines.
• Collaborates and gets along with others.
• Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); manufacturing experience required.
• Language skills: ability to read, comprehend, and write simple correspondence; present information clearly in one‑on‑one and small group settings.
• Mathematical skills: add, subtract, multiply, divide in all units of measure; compute rate, ratio, and percent; draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Reasoning ability: apply common sense to instructions; deal with problems involving several concrete variables.
• Computer skills: basic computer operations.
• Physical demands: stand and walk regularly; occasionally use hands to finger, handle, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; lift or move up to 50 pounds regularly and assist in lifting or moving up to 100 pounds occasionally; vision requirements include close, color, peripheral, and depth perception.
• Work environment: exposure to moving mechanical parts, occasional wet and/or humid conditions, moderate noise level.
