- Under the direct supervision of the Nurse Administrator/Nurse Manager, observes, assesses, plans, intervenes and evaluates outcomes and documents all aspects of patient care. Provides direct nursing care as needed and coordinates scheduling within assigned areas. Supervises, counsels, and evaluates other nursing staff. Collaborates with Nurse Coordinator, other Nurse Managers, and MH Supervisor/Specialist to ensure 24-hour continuity of care. May assume duties of the Nurse Coordinator during absence.
Flexible in work schedule. Maintains broad latitude for initiative and independent judgment. - Provides direct nursing care to individual patients; understands duties, location of work, and shift/pattern may change to meet hospital needs. May involve exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials.
- Participates in disaster response and/or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation as assigned, including alternate shift patterns or locations.
- Eligible for additional pay for work performed on evenings, nights, and/or weekends where applicable.
- Attends mandatory trainings, participates in ongoing in-service and other programs to meet patient population needs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Attends work on a regular basis; may work a specific or rotating schedule, extended shifts, and/or overtime per agency policy.
- Assess the health/mental status of patients on admission/transfer and throughout stay; document assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation to guide care. Perform CPR/Heimlich as required by American Heart Association guidelines.
- Provide direction and coordination of staffing and patient care on assigned units; communicate with administrators and staff to address performance issues and document interventions.
- Facilitate admissions/transfers by coordinating with admissions staff and unit personnel; triage patients as needed.
- Execute medical staff orders and nursing interventions according to standards and hospital policies; inform unit staff of updates.
- Provide and document patient and/or group teaching about medications, illness, and treatments appropriate to age and cognitive level.
- Implement precautions as ordered; document rights restrictions and apply restraints/seclusion per policy to maintain safety and uphold patient rights.
- Engage in abuse/neglect processes, ensure patient safety, and participate in Performance Improvement initiatives; coordinate nursing service utilization on assigned units.
- Attend mandatory trainings and participate in ongoing education relevant to patient population needs.
