Overview

The Nurse III House Supervisor performs highly complex nursing work and is responsible for the after‑hours operation of campus‑based nursing services. The role includes management of clinical nursing practice, patient care delivery, development of nursing personnel, compliance with regulatory and professional standards, and participation in disaster response and continuity of operations.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate after‑hours operation of campus‑based nursing services and ensure quality patient care.
  • Conduct hospital rounds, promote nursing visibility, and assess unit operations.
  • Ensure compliance with The Joint Commission, CMS, TAC, Texas Board of Nursing, and Texas Nurse Practice Act.
  • Prepare daily house supervisor reports for hospital leadership.
  • Implement staffing plans, reassign staff as needed, and provide clinical RN unit coverage.
  • Administer medication, treatment, assessment, and patient monitoring.
  • Serve as on‑site subject matter expert and consultant to clinical and administrative staff.
  • Coordinate external visits and requests from investigators, regulators, and law enforcement.
  • Manage client abuse/neglect process after hours to assure patient safety.
  • Coordinate smooth admission process during non‑traditional hours, including triage and assessment.
  • Act as administrative nurse designee during disasters and emergencies and coordinate drills.
  • Participate in Nursing Clinical Operations Team, performance‑improvement activities, and hospital policy development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including disaster response and COOP activation.
Essential Job Functions (EJF)

Attend work regularly, possibly on rotating or extended schedules, and perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations for individuals with mental health issues.
  • Knowledge of Texas Board of Nursing rules and the Texas Nurse Practice Act.
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures and equipment (e.g., CPR) and ability to care for residents and staff in emergencies.
  • Knowledge of nursing care standards, settlement agreements, and healthcare guidelines.
  • Supervisory skills and knowledge related to employee management.
  • Clinical care skills and use of nursing treatment tools and equipment.
  • Problem‑solving, planning, and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Proficiency with computer/software and electronic health record systems.
  • Time‑management and prioritization skills.
  • Effective communication with groups and individuals.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships, train staff, and develop policies and reports.
  • Interpret regulations and communicate them orally and in writing.
  • Evaluate services, identify concerns or trends, and develop improvement plans.
  • Organize, coordinate, and evaluate nursing activities.
  • Maintain required continuing education hours.
  • Proficient in use of computer/software and electronic health‑care systems.
Registration & Licensure Requirements

Licensed to practice as a registered nurse (RN) in the State of Texas (or a state recognized through the Nurse Licensure Compact) before hire.
