Position:Hydroinformatics Engineer
We are looking for an engineer to develop and implement algorithms and analytics for operational optimization of water distribution, wastewater collection, and treatment systems using real‑time data, hydraulic modeling, machine learning, and advanced control systems.
Core Responsibilities- Act as the subject‑matter expert to configure, calibrate, and deploy digital twin simulation services for optimizing the operation of water and wastewater networks.
- Apply optimization techniques and innovative data analytics to solve complicated, open‑ended water resources problems over sensor data and hydraulic models.
- Communicate and collaborate with engineering teams and decision‑makers to define problems, strategize solutions, and deliver results.
- Develop, manage, and analyze large datasets; present findings visually and verbally.
- Translate data‑driven insights into language understood by engineers and data analysts.
- Participate in Xylem Watermark volunteer activities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Environmental/Chemical/Mechanical Engineering (advanced degrees preferred).
- At least 3 years of experience in water, sewer, or stormwater modeling.
- Proficiency with hydraulic modeling software for drinking water networks (e.g., EPANET) and/or stormwater networks (e.g., SWMM).
- Experience programming in Python, R, C, MATLAB, or other relevant languages.
- Experience with modern data‑science workflows—data access, filtering, geospatial analysis, and model parameter estimation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Self‑motivated, resourceful, and eager to develop new skills.
- Creative, hands‑on problem solver.
- Fluency in English.
- Knowledge of data‑management modeling tools.
- Working knowledge of Agile methodology and Jira.
- Practical knowledge of modern data‑science methods for hydraulic and model development.
- Previous experience working in a water utility, organization, or related setting.
Full benefits package including Flexible Time Off (FTO) for salaried positions, health, dental, vision, an investment savings plan, and additional miscellaneous benefits. The estimated salary range is $100,000–$135,000 CAD plus bonus; starting pay depends on skills, experience, and location.
