Department OverviewThe Air Defense Ground Equipment Mechanical Design Department is responsible for the mechanical design, development, and integration of critical defense platform systems including radar and communications shelters, electronic subsystems, launchers, hardware integration, and system interconnects.
Responsibilities- Perform mechanical engineering design, development, and documentation of components, subassemblies, and major end items.
- Oversee small to mid‑sized cross‑functional engineering teams as the technical execution lead from proposal generation to program initiation.
- Serve as the technical focal point for mechanical and cross‑functional teams.
- Provide support for product integration with domestic and international factories and suppliers.
- Collaborate with engineering, non‑engineering disciplines, and suppliers to resolve technical challenges.
- Work independently with minimal supervision while ensuring schedule, cost, and technical commitments are met.
- Support and participate in design peer reviews and conduct trade studies.
- Apply mechanical engineering knowledge to solve problems in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering growth and knowledge sharing within the team.
- Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM).
- Minimum of 8years of relevant experience or an advanced degree with a minimum of 5years of experience.
- Experience spanning concept development, detailed design, transition to production, and sustainment.
- Experience in mechanical design, material selection, and manufacturing processes.
- Skills in CAD design tools, particularly ProE and Creo, including large‑assembly management.
- Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) systems.
- Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related hardware systems field.
- Experience in design and integration of electronic/shelter assemblies and power distribution equipment.
- Experience troubleshooting electromechanical systems.
- Experience with interconnects, cables, harnesses, and CNC machining.
- Proficiency in ASME Y14.5 GD&T.
- Structural design and analysis experience.
- Understanding of manufacturing systems and electromechanical production environments.
- Experience in cross‑functional IPT collaboration and engineering risk/proposal management.
- Familiarity with Earned Value Management / EAC and willingness to travel (~10%).
- Salary range: 107,500
