Job Overview
Principal System Safety Engineer position located onsite in Tewksbury, MA. Requires U.S. citizenship and an active Secret security clearance. The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Responsibilities- Develop and implement MIL-STD-882E compliant system safety programs.
- Understand safety budget and tasking through coordination with CAM/IPTL/product owner.
- Mentor junior safety engineers.
- Actively engage in engineering review boards to assess design changes and impacts to the safety program.
- Establish an ongoing feedback loop with functional and program management.
- Lead and coordinate System Safety Working Groups between key Raytheon and customer representatives.
- Interpret system requirements, customer specifications and military standards to recommend compliance strategies.
- Collaborate across integrated teams to identify and mitigate risks.
- Analyze engineering hardware, mechanical and electrical drawings and schematics for fault tolerance, latent hazards and safety compliance.
- Collaborate with Program Management and government approval authorities across design, fabrication, integration, test, production to demilitarization and disposal phases.
- Manage safety‑related interactions with suppliers and subcontractors.
- Understand and shape system safety across the lifecycle.
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
- Experience with DoD System Safety Programs such as MIL-STD-882.
- Experience briefing at Military Safety Review Boards, Engineering Change Proposals, Engineering Review Boards and System Safety Working Groups.
- Experience with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and proposal development.
- Preferred: 6 years of experience with a Master’s degree in STEM.
Salary range: 107,500 USD – 204,500 USD.
