Job Overview
Senior Engineer – Control Systems (Onsite).
Location:
Tewksbury, MA; travel to Marlborough, MA;
Andover, MA;
Woburn, MA; and/or Pelham, NH may be required. The role is based at the Raytheon / RTX facility located at 50 Apple Hill Dr, Assabet Bldg.
U.S. citizenship is required. A DoD Secret clearance is required and must be active and maintained after day one.
Responsibilities- Develop technical solutions for a wide range of high-performance actuation system and motion control challenges (array or launcher deployment, platform/enclosure stabilization, and azimuth rotation of array, platform/enclosures or launcher).
- Work autonomously with limited oversight, manage small projects around assigned program work, and provide guidance to other professionals.
- Design, test, and support operations of actuation systems throughout the product life cycle (conceptualization, design, prototyping, manufacturing, integration, verification testing, and production support).
- Apply systems engineering principles to define and solve complex actuation system problems while coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams (electrical, mechanical, control, software/firmware, manufacturing, supply chain).
- Support and drive execution of product development projects under the guidance of an Integrated Product Team (IPT) Lead.
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM (engineering, physics, mathematics, or related field) required;
Master’s or Ph.D. preferred. - Minimum 5 years of relevant experience for Bachelor’s holders; minimum 3 years for advanced degree holders; experience with electromagnetic or electrohydraulic control actuation systems required.
- Experience with actuation systems or motion controls (at least 5 years).
- Experience developing technical solutions across product lifecycle (proposal, design, manufacture, integration, test).
- Strong project management skills: estimating effort, decomposing tasks, and managing deliverables.
- Excellent written and oral communication for technical, non‑technical, and management audiences.
- Experience with feedback control systems, system sizing, testing, integration, design to manufacturing, kinematic and dynamic simulation.
- Proficiency with Matlab/Simulink for system modeling.
- Experience with Hardware‑In‑The‑Loop development tools such as dSpace.
- Design and development of test equipment for electromechanical systems operating under high load and rate.
- Experience with failure investigation teams (FRACAS / FRB / RCCA).
- Experience with permanent‑magnet brush and brushless DC motors; understanding of trapezoidal, sine, and field‑oriented control.
- Familiarity with actuation communication buses, electromechanical actuators (gears, ball screws, lead screws), position sensors, electronic controllers, and power amplifiers.
- Basic packaging skills for grounding, shielding, and electrical noise management in compact designs.
- Knowledge of command‑line interfaces, Unix systems, networking, and software.
- Existing U.S. DoD security clearance is required; prior engineering team‑lead experience (hardware, electrical, or integration) is a plus.
Salary range: $86,800 – $165,200 USD. Eligible for relocation.
