Overview
Mechanical Engineer II is needed to join the Ground Equipment Design Team within the Air Defense Ground Equipment department. The role is onsite in Tewksbury or Andover, MA and involves mechanical design, development, and integration of defense platform systems, including radar and communications shelters, electronic subsystems, launchers, hardware integration, and interconnects. This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance and U.S. citizenship.
Responsibilities- Investigate and resolve change requests from manufacturing or suppliers.
- Develop rework or modification procedures to support product updates.
- Support the full product lifecycle from concept definition through detailed design, release to production, and post-production support of Ground Based Defense Systems including Effectors.
- Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, non-technical functions, and suppliers to develop robust design solutions and resolve technical challenges.
- Participate in design peer reviews, resolve action items, and conduct trade studies to inform technical decisions.
- Manage tasks independently and ensure timely delivery of technical, schedule, and cost commitments.
- Mentor and support less experienced engineers, contributing to team development and technical growth.
- Must have typically a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree.
- Experience investigating and resolving manufacturing or supplier change requests and developing rework/modification procedures.
- Experience supporting the full product lifecycle and collaborating within cross-functional teams and with suppliers.
- Experience with design reviews, closing action items, and conducting trade studies.
- Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or related hardware systems discipline.
- Experience in electronic packaging design (subsystems, modules, CCAs, PWBs, interconnects) supporting RF, digital, and power systems.
- Knowledge of electronic assembly integration, shelters, racks, power distribution units, military/commercial specifications, GD&T (ASME Y14.5), ECAD processes, interconnects/cables/harnesses, and material selection/finishes.
- Proficiency in Creo CAD, 3D CAD and PDM systems; ability to produce technical documentation.
- Experience with Windchill PDM or similar configuration/data management systems.
- Familiar with configuration control and change management processes; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong communication, technical writing, and presentation skills; ability to travel domestically/internationally (~10%).
Salary range for this role is 68,900 USD – 131,100 USD. Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability coverage, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, paid time off, holidays, and other program-specific benefits. Eligibility for relocation assistance and incentive programs is determined by the company and the applicable business unit. Specific benefits vary by business unit and whether the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.
