Principal Software Development Engineer – Patriot Software Team

This role focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining complex C/C++ software for the Patriot air defense system. The engineer will work closely with system architects, software developers, and product leads throughout the software development lifecycle.

• Design, develop, and maintain software applications using C and C++ for complex systems.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to define, design, and implement new features, ensuring system integration and scalability.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize existing code for performance and efficiency.
• Write and maintain comprehensive documentation for software architectures and design specifications.
• Participate in code reviews and enforce coding standards and best practices.
• Stay current with industry trends and C/C++ technological advancements.
• Support light travel and off‑hours testing (2nd or 3rd shift) as required.
• Maintain exclusive onsite presence; works in a SCIF environment.

• Bachelor’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) or related field.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in developing complex systems or applications using C/C++ (or Java or other OOP languages).
• Experience with embedded systems or real‑time/larger‑scale applications.
• Proficiency with Unix/Linux operating systems.
• U.S. citizenship required. Must hold an active, transferable DoD Secret security clearance (INTERIM status acceptable prior to start).

• Experience with multithreading, memory management, or performance optimization in complex environments.
• Knowledge of network communication protocols and shell scripting (tcsh, csh, bash).
• Familiarity with RTOS (e.g., VxWorks, Integrity) and embedded tooling.
• Experience with Git, Clear Case, Agile/Scrum, and modern software development methodologies.
• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and distributed system design.

• Salary range: $107,500 - $204,500 USD.
