Accounting Specialist

Overview

The Ark‑Tex Council of Governments (ATCOG) is accepting applications for Accounting Specialist, Announcement #2604. This full‑time position is located in the Texarkana, Texas office. Starting salary is $22.45 per hour. The position is responsible for the preparation and processing of all payables for each assigned program area and for all related areas in accordance with ATCOG Procedures.

The Accounting Specialist will prepare and process all payables, maintain accurate accounting records, and prepare reports as required.

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance; OR High School Diploma, or GED equivalent, and five years experience in accounting and/or bookkeeping; OR a combination of education and experience proving the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
• Knowledge of basic accounting principles and procedures and automated accounting systems.
• Skills to work quickly and accurately with numbers, prepare and maintain financial records and reports systematically and accurately.
• Ability to interpret and apply accounting theory to difficult or complex transactions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other regional council employees, external auditors, and the general public.
• Ability to sit for extended periods at a computer while performing data entry.
• Ability to see, hear, reach, stoop, bend, and lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
• Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license subject to an approved motor.
