Job Overview
Provides clerical and administrative assistance supporting funeral operations. The Funeral Services Assistant supports a funeral home by performing a variety of duties including customer service, document preparation, arranging funeral services, and physical tasks associated with funeral rituals and vehicle operation.
Responsibilities- Answer phones courteously and politely, operate fax machine, computer, multiline phone system, debit card machine, typewriter, postage meter and scale, stereo/video system.
- Meet the general public, answer questions, and provide information on funeral and cremation services.
- Assist with funeral, memorial and other services as requested by clients and management.
- Prepare for services: deliver and set up floral arrangements, chairs, caskets, urns, photos, and other personal keepsakes.
- Ensure proper care and storage of items.
- Assist with respectful preparation of remains, including dressing and lifting, and operation of crematory as permitted by law.
- Prepare related documents for services, cremations, and maintenance directed by management.
- Perform office duties such as answering phones and operating fax machine, computer, etc.
- Run errands (floral delivery, supplies, documents).
- Serve as usher, park cars, and transport families as needed. Drive funeral home vehicles for services and pickups.
- Ensure refreshments are available where allowed by law.
- Assist with visitations, memorial and funeral services, including dressing and casketing remains, delivering family items and flowers.
- Greet and receive client families and others entering the office for information and assistance.
- Accommodate the needs of the family during a service and/or visitation.
- Wash and clean funeral home vehicles and other client vehicles from time to time.
- Attend monthly staff meetings.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous customer service and/or sales experience preferred.
- Proficient with MS Office suite and databases preferred; ability and willingness to learn required.
- Valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required.
