Position Overview
Associate Professor/Professor & Division Chair, Humanities Division at Texas A&M University – Texarkana. 12‑month, tenured appointment. Tenure on arrival pending approval from the Texas A&M University System.
Responsibilities- Act as chief academic officer of the division; administer division and report to the Dean of the College.
- Serve as both an academic administrator and faculty member, maintaining active teaching, research, and service at a level appropriate to the scope of the position.
- Provide leadership and management to the Humanities Division consistent with the university’s mission and goals.
- Plan, communicate, coordinate, problem‑solve, negotiate, set goals, and represent the Division, College, and University.
- Maintain an active 6‑hour teaching assignment per semester (Fall and Spring) and possibly one class in Summer on a case‑by‑case basis.
- Act as the unit budget officer, planning and directing the division’s programmatic offerings, and managing budgets and funds.
- Recruit, supervise, evaluate, and appoint faculty (tenure‑track, non‑tenure‑track, and adjunct) and full‑time faculty; make recommendations to the Dean for appointments, promotions, and compensation.
- Lead scheduling of courses, recommend additions or cancellations, and prepare the division’s class schedule.
- Address student concerns, manage student‑assistant staff, and maintain the division’s internal operations.
- Develop and promote the division’s academic programs, advise the Dean and Provost on academic matters, and lead strategic planning.
- Ensure compliance with college, university, system, and state rules; advise on academic matters concerning the division.
- Oversee curriculum integrity, program and accreditation reviews, and curriculum development with faculty and support units.
- Conduct assessment efforts, review student retention and graduation data, and work toward improving rates.
- Participate in university and college committees, task forces, and community outreach; represent the division at formal events.
- Earned doctorate in English, History, Communication, Communication Studies, Mass Communication, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Demonstrated commitment to collaborative leadership and fostering a collegial, supportive, and student‑centered academic environment.
- Track record of excellence in teaching, including online courses, in the candidate’s discipline.
- Evidence of an active, ongoing research agenda.
- Experience supervising faculty and staff, supporting professional growth, and fostering a collaborative departmental culture.
- Knowledge of state and federal guidelines as they pertain to higher education.
- Authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.; no visa sponsorship will be offered.
- Minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience in higher education.
- Minimum of 1 year as a division/department chair.
- Other strengths in research, curriculum innovation, and community engagement are valued.
- Ability to travel and work beyond normal office hours.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with security‑sensitive protocols.
