Job Description

197 workday calendar. Reports to Athletic Director and Campus Principal. Dept./School:
Middle School.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited university.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject and level assigned.
  • Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned.
  • Knowledge of the assigned academic subject.
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Previous teaching, student teaching, or approved internship experience preferred.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Develop and implement lesson plans according to campus guidelines that fulfill district curriculum requirements and provide written evidence of preparation.
  • Prepare lessons that accommodate differences in student learning styles.
  • Present subject matter according to Texas Education Agency guidelines, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that suit student learning styles and needs.
  • Assess student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula for special education students per IEP guidelines.
  • Work with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods per district requirements.
  • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aides and volunteers.
  • Integrate technology to strengthen teaching/learning per TEKS.
  • Participate in ARD meetings as needed.
  • Use the TEKS Resource System as directed.
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement using formal and informal testing and analyze data to meet student needs.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.
  • Be a positive role model for students and support the district mission.
  • Serve as a mentor to at‑risk students as needed.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for student development.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and handbook.
  • Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selection of books, equipment, and instructional materials as needed.
  • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
  • Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Participate in professional development activities to improve job-related skills and utilize research-based best practices.
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all required reports, records, and documents within deadlines.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
  • Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities

    Supervise assigned teacher aides, student teachers, and student observers.

    Physical & Mental Demands

    Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequently standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
