Position Summary

UXO Technicians support Munitions and Explosives of Concern (MEC) investigation, identification, recovery, and disposal operations in support of Military Munitions Response Program, range clearance, construction support, and related projects. Work is performed in the field under varying terrain and weather conditions. Technicians must be able to safely perform munitions‑related duties in accordance with applicable DoD, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), DDESB, OSHA, EPA, and client‑specific requirements, and must maintain the highest standards of safety, professionalism, and integrity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Execute UXO‑related tasks under close supervision in accordance with project work plans, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and safety plans.
  • Perform surface and subsurface detection, location, and mapping of MEC using hand‑held and/or towed geophysical instruments.
  • Assist in visual identification and basic classification of munitions and munitions debris, deferring all final identification to senior UXO personnel.
  • Support implementation of exclusion zones, controls, and site safety measures including daily site inspections and UXO safety briefings as directed.
  • Excavate, uncover, and expose suspected UXO/MEC and related items using manual and mechanical methods under direct supervision.
  • Assist with segregation, packaging, and temporary storage of recovered munitions and munitions debris in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Support preparation of demolition shots by transporting explosives, preparing materials, placing donor charges, and emplacing firing systems under direct supervision.
  • Assist in demilitarization/disposal tasks, including post‑shot inspections and documentation, under direction of UXO Technician II/III or UXO Supervisor.
  • Operate and maintain assigned tools, vehicles, and equipment (e.g., hand tools, GPS, geophysical instruments) in a safe and serviceable condition.
  • Complete required field documentation, logs, and forms with attention to accuracy and traceability.
  • Participate in safety meetings, tailgate briefings, and after‑action reviews; promptly report hazards, near‑misses, and incidents.
  • Support environmental, geophysical, and construction crews with UXO escort and monitoring as directed.
Education
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Additional vocational, technical, or college coursework in engineering, environmental science, geophysics, construction, or related fields preferred.
Certifications & Training
  • Graduation from a U.S. military Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) school or successful completion of an industry‑recognized UXO Technician Level I training course meeting applicable DoD/DDESB/USACE requirements.
  • OSHA 40‑Hour HAZWOPER (29 CFR ) or ability to obtain prior to field deployment.
  • Current OSHA 8‑Hour HAZWOPER refresher (if applicable)
  • Current CPR/First Aid training preferred.
Experience
  • Must meet DDESB TP 18, 24 June 2020 CHAPTER 4: MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS Table 4.2. Minimum Qualifications for UXOT 1,2, or 3 (depending on level)
  • Prior military service in EOD, combat engineer, artillery, infantry, or related MOS/AFSC strongly preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a field team in austere conditions.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying terrain and weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to walk long distances and work extended hours as required.
  • Must be able to wear required PPE.
